Harper Collins publishing is now showing some information, including the cover art (unless just a prototype), for Stan Blits' book on TPIR, as well as a countdown timer to the release, slated for Sept. 4 (the show's actual premiere date, 35 years ago!)

In looking at this, and briefly surfing through the "You Might Also Like..." section, I came across the PYL DVD game. In the ad copy:

Take your pick of Barker's hair color.

The "Come on Down" cited by Chris was one of the first widely distributed book about game shows, including an early GS encyclopedia in 1986.  I should know this as I made it part of a college paper in 1989.  As for the new "Come on Down" book, we'll have to see what kind of interesting tidbits Stan can tell us.

Harper Collins is starting off on the wrong foot:

http://www.harpercollins.com/books/9780061...Down/index.aspx

Once again, Stan is NOT the show's music director. He is the music supervisor. Any production assistant can do Stan's job; in fact that is how Stan got his job. He does not compose, arrange, conduct, produce, record or perform any of the show's music, which a real music director would (e.g. Paul Shaffer or Edd Kalehoff).

I don't blame Harper Collins for that though...I remember seeing him credited on the show as such. Seems Fremantle needs to correct that one.

And for those asking from the bio, this year they started including directors and writers in the Emmy listings for series (dropping the game show director category and seemingly renaming the talk show writing category "Special Class"--that used to be where they put game show writers), so in the nominations, Stan was listed as a "writer," along with Adam Sandler--although in the actual Emmy listing for winning, the only names listed are Barker, Roger (as "producer/writer") and Bart--which would seem to indicate that those three were the only ones who actually received statues.

daytime reality TV

Is that what they call it now?

Even in a climate where game shows are running rampant in primetime again, is "game show" still a bad title?
