f the new owners want to pull the license from Disney if the Mouse doesn't want to make the changes, they probably can--and they could probably get another production company/syndicator in the U.S. to pick up the format.

That reminds me...I notice they removed the Buena Vista logo from the credits...the show cuts off immediately after Valleycrest. Would Sony Pictures be interested in the show, considering they distribute some of the Embassy Row shows?

Just a note: It's not Buena Vista anymore.  It's Disney-ABC Television, or something to that effect.  I haven't seen Millionaire in a few weeks, so I don't know if that's on the end or not.

Edit: It's Disney-ABC Domestic Television

That explains it then. As of Friday, the show still cuts off after the Valleycrest logo.

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching "Ebert & Roeper" and noticed no Buena Vista logo and a "ABC Disney Domestic Television" copyright notice.  Now I know that the two events are tied in.

I would assume that there would be a new logo in the fall, but which way are they going?  "When You Wish Upon a Star" or "Dah DAH da DAH!"?

I also saw that the phone-in game is ending in the UK--prospective contestants will now be tested and interviewed at auditions, like most other game shows.
[/quote]

We are still keeping the old fashioned route if you wanted to be picked via random selection, through telephohe, mobile texting and internet entry. While the auditions will look for those with interesting personalities.

It does beg the question whether Michael Davis will look into the new format, as the latest season is already in the can. I would say Eddie McGuire will be interested in the new format though, rumours are still rife down under to bring back Millionaire as McGuire is no longer in control of Channel Nine.

From Bother's Bar , or at least, a poster on Bother's Bar...which reveals the answer and ends the speculating. I just don't see why they couldn't start the first q on level 4 and go from there with no changes to the tree...but it's their money, not mine.

The thing I most notice about that money tree is the "odd amounts", like 16,000, 32,000 or 64,000 are now gone.  For us, I guess there's always been a connection back to the famous '50s show with the $64K top prize, but probably most of today's viewers wouldn't get that connection.

I really don't like how the first tier is shorter than the other two. Even in Australia, the first tier was one question, so it feels more like another qualifier.

My other issue is with the jump from 75k to 150k. With a 50k cushion, you're risking 25k for 75k. Very lopsided.

I still think you can't go wrong by doubling the dollars with each question. It's what worked thus far.

Is that all that removed from our $100K -> $250K jump, where you risk $75K to win $150K? Not very.

My issue was with the $50K -> $75K jump, until it occurred to me that that is the "free guess" question, and then it struck me as rather ingenious.

Not that removed at all. And I don't like that jump either. There shouldn't be jumps that scream "Not worth it" right next to jumps that scream "More than worth it."

Yeah, same with the $150 -> $250k. At first glance, it looks like risking more than the gain, but it's actually risking $100k for another $100k. At the free guess level, it's clever to keep the incentive relatively low, but in this scenario, you could possibly scare people out of taking a chance which is actually not as unreasonable as it looks.

Homgz get off my internetz!

Ok, that's enough. Let's continue the serious discussion, lest we get the thread locked. I'll wait until I see the new board in play before I make any decisions, but suffice it to say I question it.

I have now uploaded screen grabs from the first show featuring the new look last night.

While the new techno theme tune and opening titles are now on YouTube.

I'm not sure if the new theme tune would suit the syndie version. However, I would suspect they would adapt the new "marble effect" to the question graphics for the next season.

I was able to see this, and I like the new graphics and music (If you were creating this show in 2007 instead of 1999, you might go with something like this). Still not sure about the 2/5/5 split yet, however (once they go to civilian shows in a few months, we'll probably have more of an idea strategywise).

EDIT: and apparently the German Millionaire is also changing their rules slightly...according to a poster at Bother's Bar, the players at the beginning can pick one of two ways of playing: The normal way, or the daring way. The daring way is still 15 questions, but you get a (still unknown) 4th lifeline from the beginning. The tradoff is you lose the 10th question milestone, so a miss at questions 6-15 would mean you go back to the question 5 amount.
