I remember hearing that the theme would be "redone" in stereo. Was it a new arrangement, or was the theme just remastered?

I liked TNPiR's set, too. Outside of the video wall, it's a good example of how to "modernize" a set.

Same here...change is good at times, and it keeps the show fresh. New host, new set, and from what's been posted, the changes (even cosmetic) are fairly minor.

Now, if J! would get rid of that crazy mess of a set they have...

How much longer do we have with that hellish set?  They swap them every five years, right?

Something like that...I think the Sushi Bar lasted for six, so by that math, there's another year left. :-P

I think the set before that one lasted six as well. Now if only we can get rid of that artsy-modern set they have right now...

Re J!: Do you *really* want a show who's last two major set changes were for the worse to hurry up with another one?

The new season of Price sounds good. Not sure how the new audience curtains could be more garish than the "Rod Roddy's recycled jackets" ones they've had the last couple of years, but since it sounds like the set's kept the same overall feel I'll be happy. And what a relief to hear that Drew's doing well! And that the audience seems happy with him: it's hard to separate how many watched Bob Barker because he happened to be on The Price is Right as opposed to watching TPIR because that's the show Bob was on. Of course what really matters is the home audience, but it's still a good sign.

Speaking of which, Drew is already getting along with the co-workers; he and Roger joked around after one pricing game, he kidded around with other staffers during tape breaks, he seemed subtly proud of himself for memorizing the models' names, and he led a round of applause for Rich Fields for the Showcase reveal. He seemed truly HAPPY to be there.

Sounds like it's already a happier Stage 33. The days of the Ice Prince are over, apparently.

I'm really excited about the upcoming season after reading all these first-person experiences.  If all these observations about Drew and the show translate into good numbers heading in the November "Sweeps", whoever "locked it in" at CBS (Moonves?) is a genius, on top of being the most watched in daytime and primetime in recent years.

Remember, I'm the twisted soul who LIKED the TNPiR set.

You're not the only twisted soul who liked the TNPiR set.  I thought it was very classy for it's time.  I think it would work today.  It was just ahead of its time in 1994.

To whoever asked, last night's "PO10" had to be taped after the announcement--Drew's look of pleasure when the lady said that her favorite game show was "TPIR" was too genuine to be anything else but.

Ya know, I thought of that, but then at the same time it also occurred to me that TPiR is the only other game show on CBS and maybe that's why Drew was all "That's what I wanna hear!" about it.

You bring up a good point. Then again, I always thought the "checkerboard" set from the mid-90s, plain as it was, looked extremely slick. It's hard to top that one. :-)

Then again, looking at the current set, almost anything would be an improvement. Would love to see them use that set from the Radio City Music Hall shows, or another one they used for a NYC trip c. 1999 or 2000.

/Love J!

What's so horrible about it? I honestly don't see it. It's got a video wall for the gameboard, a podium for Alex, and a perfectly serviceable set of contestant podiums. What's the problem?

I just TOTALLY do not understand all of the kvetching over the J! set. Even the infamous Sushi Bar set, I thought was fine. (I particularly liked the sliding door thing.)

I thought the current set was a big improvement over the sushi bar set. The strobe lights never grew on me. And I like the non-black floor. Perhaps the backdrops are a little unorthodox, but they're not bad. I think the current set is classy.

I liked the Sushi Bar set. It was understated, yet the lighting gave it gloss and drama.

The current set is truly awful. There are too many materials with no rhyme and reason to the design. There's no order to where one's eye should go. There's no motion. Both sets of lecturns have been clunky, and the type on the score monitors is compressed too much and is aesthically far worse than the old LEDs. Jeopardy deserves an iconic set, and this one is really, really dreadful. Classy? Classy in the same way a TPIR car backdrop is classy. I can't stress how dreadful it is.

Days like this, I wish I'd followed through on that architecture degree. Then my kvetching would have academic weight. :-)

Regarding how recently the J! set was changed, didn't they change it a year or two ago in the switch to HD?

What does everybody have against the "sushi bar" set, anyhow?  They could do a lot worse: perhaps they should go back to the '85-'86 set (grainy vidcap here, except with maybe Solari boards or Nixie tubes for the score.
