TV violence and game shows

I have posted some scans of the July, 1978 issue of Crazy magazine (similar to MAD), in which they ask the question "What would happen when TV violence takes over game shows.  While the gags are just so-so, the caricatures of the classic hosts are interesting.

Warning: some of these parodies are very politically incorrect, poking fun at sensitive issues like spousal abuse and even the Holocaust.  I only included them for the novelty value (and let the record show that I'm Jewish).

Intro, and Hollywood Squares

Concentration

Beat the Clock

Name That Tune

The Newlywed Game (Note that the caricature here is not Eubanks, but Chuck himself.)

Enjoy!

Crazy Magazine: The reason people thought MAD Magazine was funny.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

Oh...I still don't get what the joke is, though. Could've atleast tried Bud Collyer. Then again it WAS 1978...

Ever hear of a webcomic by the name of The Perry Bible Fellowship?  It's drawn by Nicholas Gurewitch.  Beautifully drawn --kind of a multi-panel Far Side in a way-- but there's a group of readers out there who have a really, really bad habit of trying to read too much into the jokes.

The point is, in this post-modern world, there are still jokes out there that stare you right in the face.  In this case, the contestants are physically beating up the clock.

Of course the joke sucks.

(Besides, the real question we should be asking on that one was why did they draw Meatloaf wearing high-heel shoes?)
