I don't think the addition of an hour-long LMaD block at 2a from Th-Sa nights was mentioned before...

That's because barring any TAR 2-hour episodes, we already have it.

My fault. Now that there's actually some good stuff on these late nights, I started paying attention.

Rather than start a new thread, I'll just put this hear.  GSN has a brand new set for the first US season of That's The Question and, I have to say, it's an incredibly nice set.  One of the best they've done.  There are four pictures below.

One
Two
Three
Four

All courtesy of GSN's publicity department.  I really love the idea of the board on the contestant's desk.  Whoever thought that one up deserves a bonus.  Has any other game show had the actual game board on the player's desk in lieu of graphics?

The new season, with actual writers, starts on September 11th at 9PM ET.

Edit: Picture 4 is fixed.  Sorry for the thumbnail.

It seems a little sparse to me, but then, what else are you gonna do? I like what they did with what they've done, though.

(If it were mine to do, as much as I like the effect of the gameboard and scores being on the projection screen in the desk (what, actual non-Chyroned scores on the podium? Perish the thought!), I'd be happier with a separate central gameboard between Bob and the contestant desk, just to make it a little less cramped.)

And yet, is dark.
Whatever happened to having a light set that indicated fun and frolics, instead of having every show look so damn serious?

A little show called Who Wants to be a Millionaire came and everyone figured since it was successful, they might as well copy it.

Truthfully, I think the dark and foreboding sets for a show with a $5K top prize is just stupid.  However, I've just grown used to it and if they had to have a dark set, at least this one's very nice.  Can't be worse than Who Wants to Chain Reaction's set, and at least it doesn't look extremely tiny like Camouflage.

I'd consider The Price is Right fairly successful too.  Perhaps they should take a look at that and see what works.

I donno Mark.  TPiR's set (IMHO) became dated into the '90s, and Millionaire was a fresh set kick.  Maybe with the new set coming with Drew's arrival, maybe the set designs will swing back to cheery again.

I don't disagree with you on the fact the set is dated at all.

I was thinking moreso as to the general idea that people are having fun on Price.  Sure, it has its share of losers, but I don't think the feelings are as bad on Price as they are on some of these other shows.

See, I disagree, I DO think it looks tiny. Maybe there is more to it than that, or a Bonusland that Bob and the winning player go to, or something, but based solely on those pictures, it looks way too small.

I wonder if the difference is just that "That's the Question" has indeterminable black space in the background while "Camouflage" has visible walls (even if they are imaginitively lit up).

I honestly like the set. It's kinda slick, although small. I agree the game board should be placed either between the contestants and Bob, or at stage right. The set seems "lacking" with the board on the desk. However, I like it a lot more than using CG to superimpose a game board.

As for it being "dark", I consider the Donnymid set to be too dark, or the shows from fall-1999/winter-2000. This reminds me of a few sets from the 70s and 80s, which consisted of dark surroundings, highlighted by bright backdrops, i.e. Cross-Wits, Child's Play, or 80s Newlywed Game.

Well, let me say that I DO like it on the desk as something to use during play for a shot of the players. A lot. I just want to see a gameboard along with it for the players to look at instead of having them work off of monitors.

Wouldn't putting in a game board break the 180-degree camera line? (If relevant)
