The text and physical piggy bank were both present on the fourth episode and were both gone by the tenth episode. I can't pinpoint exactly when they changed, because GSN didn't run episodes 6 and 8.

The asterisk is definitely NOT a "Goodson-Todman thing". It wasn't used on any shows besides TPIR to the best of my knowledge, and they were all over the Mike Douglas set long before TPIR used them.

I, too, recall the flower-power asterisk lighting up on the winner's display. On Cullen's version, an asterisk lit up when the player froze, this when they had many bids, not just one. Has anyone ever heard that they considered doing more than one bid on the IUFBs on the remake?

Also, the asterisks on the floor used to look a lot better when they were part of a square grid, originally yellow. It made the area in front of contestants' row look less like plain old studio floor. Anyone know why they got rid of the grid, and why they bothered to keep the out-of-place asterisks down there?

Do we know exactly when that was? I know they were still calling themselves "New" after the March 1973 time change. I think I have an episode from around June '73 where "New" is still there as well. It obviously happened before they started taping the second season of Dennis' run.

Yes. The May 8, 1973 ep with Double Digits was still The New Price is Right. According to the GSN graphic, it was taped in Apr 73. I also have a later episode with Any Number, Keep/Give & Double Prices. GSN's graphic states it was taped in May '73, and it's still NEW then too.

The slanted chase lights at the entrances were cool, but I'm more partial to the neon update from c. 1981. Maybe it's because the set (and neon joker rotation) is one of my earliest childhood TV memories...

I actually remember an episode of Pyramid in which, at the shows opening, Dick Clark commented that we'll notice that this place is slowly turning blue. The backlit frames behind where the contestants sit were still orange on that show, but some weeks later they would make like the chameleon as well.
