Homemade Props
« on: August 28, 2007, 04:02:14 PM »
Sunday night, I hosted my fourth annual "Game Show Night" for the American Cancer Society.  This year was our best year ever!  We had a big crowd, and made $1000 for the cause!

In a different thread I promised pictures from the event.  Here they are:

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?...albumId=1230859

Some of the the pictures are a little dark, but you can still see my homemade TPIR props.  Let me know how they look.  I know they look good, but if you guys are impressed, then I've definitely done right!

If you've built things for various reasons (charity, a special show, etc.) post some pictures.  I'm curious to see what else is out there.

I, for one, am impressed. Particularly good usage of the projection screen.

How do the eggcrates in the Showcase podiums work? Are they just slide-in numbers?

Thanks for the compliments.  I thought you guys would appreciate the attention to detail.

I work part-time for a mobile disc jockey company, so every year they supply all the A/V stuff.  We do the show with two 7 1/2 x 10 foot rear projection screens.  Each projector is connected to a laptop that's running Powerpoint.  This year I used Powerpoint 2007, and I LOVE it!  The lights around the Big Doors chase the entire time, and the panels of the door slide open, just like the real thing.  I have my work cut out for me next year though.  I'll have to spend a lot of time painting and rebuilding the Powerpoints, to make them look like their new TV counterparts!

And speaking of detail, yes, that is an ECM-51 sitting on the Showcase podium after the show.

Chris, each Showcase podium has it's own card thaty slides in at the top.  One of my crew members just colors in the dots to create the numbers.  Those Showcase podiums were new for this year, and so were the cards.  It looks even better than I thought it would!

I really need to get out more, don't I?!

For those of you that don't like, or aren't a member of myspace, I'm working on putting the pictures up on photobucket.

Good job!  I made a few props when I was younger, but nothing that elaborate.  How did you make the wheel?  Is it solid or did you build some type of frame?

I didn't build the wheel myself, a friend of mine did.

This was the first year we used it.  We replaced our old one that didn't look much like the TV version, but it looked like the SIDE of it.  People said it looked like "an upright Wheel of Fortune".  Not only that, but the damn thing would spin and spin, and spin!  We had to put it out for the garbage man, and he was fascinated bu it!  I wish I could have kept it, because it would have made an interesting coffee table!

The sides are 1/2 inch plywood, the faceplates are handy panel, and the frame is made of 2x4's.  We put 20 black plastic handles on it, and there are numbers are on the opposite side of the wheel (with the handles on one side, there wasn't room for the numbers !)  The numbers on the front are cut out of glossy presentation paper and glued on.  Glitter would have been too messy!

I didn't like it much before it was painted, but it looks great now!

All I have to say is "Wow!" That's unbelievably impressive. This must have required a lot of work!
