Crosswords will be seen in Philly

For those living in Philly/Jersey region, we are in fact getting Crosswords. It will air at 9 a.m. on KYW(CBS)...saw it during a commercial break during TPIR this morning. They didn't give a start date.

*K*YW.  When you have historic call letters, you can use them east of the Mississippi, even if they start with a "K."  Westinghouse used the KYW calls on radio and television in three cities--Chicago, Cleveland and Philadelphia (twice in Philadelphia on radio, I believe) and now CBS has them.

EDIT to my EDIT: Looks like Temptation will only air at 3 & 3:30pm on Monday due to Law Journal and Sports Magazine airing at 8pm. Tuesday to Friday it will air at 8 & 8:30pm.

I was wondering where I was gonna find those new shows.  Thanks.  At least now I don't have to check every Philly TV web site now except for Temptation.

9AM for Crosswords?  That's the earliest I can remember watching a game show before TPIR.  The last time I saw a game show before TPIR at 11 was some 15-20 years ago when we had satellite TV & NBC had shows like $ale of the Century on at 10:30 AM.

9 AM was a common time for CBS and NBC to air game shows on the west coast; CBS had The Joker's Wild at 9 (at least when it debuted), and I recall NBC had Name That Tune (the Dennis James version) and then Celebrity Sweepstakes on at 9 for a while.

And for the handful of us who have lived in a Mountain Time Zone city, we had game shows at 8 AM.

Some stations might not have updated their listings yet. For example, for the Norfolk listings, WTKR's 10 am slot reads "To Be Announced", and I'm pretty sure a "Millionaire" airing goes there.

That being said, per Program Partners' website:
Quote
Program Partners and Merv Griffin Entertainment today announced that Merv Griffin’s Crosswords has cleared all 50 of the top 50 markets, bringing its reach to over 92% of the U.S. Set to premiere in national syndication September 10...

I can beat that...we had the syndie run of Strike it Rich on at 6:30 AM here in '86.  The next year, $100,000 Pyramid was carried on the CBS affiliate at 7:30 AM.  My VCR was getting a workout back then!

I seem to recall a few markets aired Anderson/Karn Feud at 8:00 or earlier. The first two years of Karn in Albany were a double run at 8:00/8:30 in 02-03, then a single run at 7:30 AM and I seem to recall that Norfolk had one of the runs in the early morning for a time too.

I forgot all about that! You're right...

(recalls)

It was during Feud's third season. I believe WVBT aired it during the 6am hour, along with O'Hurley's TTTT (second-season). 'VBT took Truth off after a few weeks, and when WSKY debuted in November 01, they aired it at 5:30 and 7 pm.

I think 'VBT kept Feud in that horrible slot, and even double ran it during part of the 02-03 season, at 2:30 and 6 am! WTVZ eventually picked it up and March 03, and they've kept it in daytime slots since.

If I make a trip to the library and remember to do so, I'll check out some of the TV lineups from fall 2001-spring 2003.

ETA: An ATGS search reveals, 2:30 and 6 am in fall 2002, and Street Smarts once aired at 5:30 am. WGNT eventually picked up the show for a daytime slot.
