I'm genuinely excited for the new season - perhaps to an unhealthy degree. Drew "gets it". He may not ever be 1982-Barker smooth, but he's clearly having fun and appreciates the show for what it is.

The set looks fantastic. It may be '70s, but anything's better than the Walt Disney Vomit of the past few years.

Rich Fields is still a schmuck.

I wholly agree with you on Drew and the set, but calling Rich a schmuck?  Would you have said the same thing about Johnny Olson or Rod Roddy?  Give the guy a break!

You mean if Johnny and Rod sounded like they were having a heart attack when saying that a new car was being offered, or if they sounded like they were reading a bedtime story to four year olds when they were describing the next item up for bids?

Uhh...

Would you have said the same things about Jim Perry and the '80s US $otC, or about Tony Barber and the Aussie $otC, that you've said about Rossi Morreale and Temptation?  Would you say the same things about Todd Newton that you've said about, well, pretty much every other game show host?  Give me a break!

I think the slamming of Rich Fields has been way overdone, and certainly some of it has far less to do with Rich's ability as announcer than the inability of some people to forgive CBS for not hiring Randy West.    But people are entitled to their opinions, and the fact that Rich Fields happens to hold the same job that Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy once held does not by definition make him as good as they were.  Moreover, you are the last person who should be lecturing others on "giving people a break," given how -- not unlike the portion of criticism of Rich that comes from not being Randy -- you've refused to give Temptation or Rossi Morreale a chance simply because Rossi isn't Todd Newton.

(And before anyone tries to turn this into a Randy vs. Rich war, I'm not touching that debate with a ten-foot pole.  I happen to like and respect both gentlemen, and I enjoy listening to both of them work.  If that makes me less respectable in the eyes of some folks here, so be it.)

No. Because they weren't schmucks. Rich Fields is a schmuck.

(And I'm not in the least bitter about the Randy thing, seeing as it appears to have worked out more than well for Randy. Not only does he get to announce, but he gets $1.99 breakfast buffets. How much does THAT rule?)

You seem to have a hard time understanding people are going to have an opinion for themselves. For someone who's always crying about people "doo-doo"ing on your opinion, you sure aren't willing to respect others who say something you don't approve of.

BTW, I like "Temptation", despite its flaws.

Yeah, but Rich gets the craft services table.  So he's at least ahead by almost two bucks.

Alas.

CBS.com just posted some pics of the creation of the set.

It's worth a look

Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

Is it me, or does Bente Christensen look a little too much like Fingers Greco?

So, not even CBS knows the difference between the "showcase" and the "showcase showdown" area, I see.

So THAT'S what they did to the old "Let's Make a Deal" set. :-)

Seriously, though, it looks awesome.  Don't know about all those lights on the turntable and Showcase (Showdown, according to the caption, grrr...) podiums, though.  They kind of come off as cheesy to me, almost like what a game show parody would look like.  I'm sure they'll grow on me.  But yeah, overall, beautiful job and I'm that much more hyped for October 15th.

For that matter, neither did whoever wrote the rules for The Price Is Right in volume two of The Game Show Encyclopedia. This was the edition that was published in 1995. If you've got the tome handy, have a look-see at page 161. They do it once, they do it twice and they do it again.
