Is there a way I can get information about working in the Wheel of Fortune archives ( job description, salary, etc. )? If so, how?

Thanks,

Well, as you know, one of the primary functions of an archivist is the safeguarding of records and important, valuable documents.  As a member of the "Wheel" archivist team, you would be responsible for a number of things, such as:
  • Filing every episode into a tape library, making sure to track:
    • Total amount won
    • How much Vanna got to speak
    • Whether the prize puzzle is a trip
    • What the Mystery Round prize was, and
    • Whether the bonus puzzle was easy or not.  ($100,000 wins use a special gold foil label.)
    • Counting the number of times each letter appears in a puzzle during a season, as too many "E's" can lead to boring television.
    • Producing educational materials, to make sure the history of Wheel is not forgotten (at least, the history from 1983-onwards).
    • Noting the IQ of each contestant -- important to make sure the mean stays below 100.  Proficiency in MicroSoft Excel is vital for this!
    • Inventorying Vanna's wardrobe, currently warehoused in studios 43, 44, 45, 46, and 46A.
    • Safeguarding the vault holding MG Kelly's career.
    • Appearing on hit TV shows such as the "O'Reilly Factor" to defend the validity of a show based on a children's game where a guy commits suicide.
    • Charting the daily weather in Buffalo, where Pat got his start.
    • Doing occasional public relations work to area schools when Wheel is on the road, so you can tell junior furbies just how cool it is to be part of the team!
Unfortunately, there's really noone here who can give you more information on things like salary.  But I'm almost certain that members of the Wheel of Fortune team lurk on the GSN.com boards.  Maybe they can help you there!

    Good luck!

I'm pretty sure Gene's post is too long for "Line of the Day," but he definitely wins the thread. :-)

Whoa, wait a minute. He's member number 3954?! There is and was almost FOUR THOUSAND members of this board?

And yes, brilliant. I was very much into that description and thinking of applying until the gold foil label part.

Not exactly.  That number includes Zach Horan's 101 attempts to return after being banned, Harvey Daye's 71 attempts to come back, the many (but nowhere near as numerous) similar attempts by other banned members such as John Chartier, and lots and lots of spammer accounts.

My best estimate right now is that we're at just over two thousand members, though of course nowhere near that many are active participants.

The second bullet-point is the one that told me this was a funny.  Brilliant, indeed!  And for whom do you write, for a living?

If we needed the Line Of The Day (inside the Post Of The Year), here it is.  That would be one hell of an interview!

    Bravo!

/is it even POSSIBLE to work in the archives of WoF?
    //serious question

And one that would never happen, considering that even O'Reilly knows how worthless of a TV show he has when he can't bully someone who doesn't share his opinions.

Somewhere in that job description, there should have been a mention that said archivist must preserve the notion that Woolery is still on sabatical from Wheel and has never left!

    Woolery Left Wheel???

    :-p

But see, if you were an official Wheel of Fortune archivist, you'd know.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
