Quick thought/question about the writers strike.
« on: November 07, 2007, 09:40:05 PM »
I believe I read that the soap operas have enough scripts to last a few months yet.

If the strike goes long enough, might that mean the (likely temporary) return of daytime network game shows?

Extremely doubtful. The daytime game shows that are on now are doing poorly and the networks don't develop game shows any more.

But what happens if the strike does go on long enough to hinder the soaps and such?

I'm hoping for the WCS in June, personally.

They will air repeats. It will be spun as "Classic Insert Soap Name Here."

Why is this such a difficult concept to grok? We have three networks with YEARS of material in their vaults. Why are they gonna spend money to make new stuff in an emergency?

As long as there is hope......

So this will be true for the syndicated stuff as well?

There isn't. You're deluding yourself if you think there is.

here are the game shows i think should be brought back while the strike is happening bullseye, pyramid, password, classic concentration, hot potato, chain reaction, pitfall, hit man, press your luck, daytime wheel of fortune and they should bring back chuck wollery and susan stafford and bring back the shopping and the 175$ space and the ceramic dalmation, also match game 70s, not the 90s version because it wasnt as good as the 70s version so it should be the 70s version ok thats what i want to see.

/just my opinion!

classic concentration

I seriously thought about NBC doing this...but then I remembered they'd just add another three hours to Today.

If Dylan Lane were to host, TV=OFF is a better option.

Well here's what I know of for game/reality competition shows the nets have ready:

NBC:

-Deal or No Deal

-American Gladiators

-A few eps of 1 vs 100 have been taped, but I think it's a WGA show

-ditto for Singing Bee- a few eps taped, but again, I think it's under the WGA

-The Biggest Loser

-Celebrity Apprentice

(NBC is probably going to be the most hurt, as they really don't have a lot of other backup material)

FOX
-American Idol

-Nothing But the Truth

-Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader?

-I'm not sure if Don't forget the Lyrics is a WGA show or not

(even with the 24 postponement, it's probably in the best shape since American Idol can fill a lot of holes)

ABC

-DWTS (they've been adlibbing)

-Duel

-The Bachelor

(about in the same boat as NBC is)

CBS

-Survivor (rumored to be All-Stars from the seasons after the last All-Star Edition)

-Million Dollar Password

-Big Brother (they're looking an eye towards an early February start-and not a celeb edition that's been rumored- this is per their casting director)

-I wouldn't be at all shocked if they do some more TPIR MDS specials-it could also introdouce a lot more people ot Carey's style...

(since procedurals rerun well-CBS is probably in the best shape)

CW

-America's Next Top Model

-Beauty and the Geek

-Farmer Takes a Wife

-Crowned (mother/daughter multi-week beauty pagent)

-Search for the next Pussycat Doll

(CW has been a wreck all season, so who knows what this would do..)

Attempts to contact the CW's fan base (to find out what this would do) were not successful, as she had gone to bed.

It isn't.

You can add "Hell's Kitchen" coming back in the spring and this "When Women Ruled the World" or something like that.

Also, "Nothing"'s been renamed "Your Moment of Truth."

At NBC, you can add "Amne$ia" with your host Denny Miller.

And at ABC you can add "Dance Wars:  Bruno v. Carrie Ann," which is an Americanization of the BBC's "DanceX" and a spinoff from "DWTS/SCD."  Not to mention "National Bingo Night" next month.

I'm not sure if "When Women Ruled the World" is competitive reality or not (if it's more like "Real World"  than "Survivor"), so I didn't count it in the list....

Buzzerblog is saying Duel is gonna be shown as a week-long stunt in mid-December...I think out of all the new shows, Duel has the most interesting format to me.

I haven't heard or read a single thing about NBN recently which is leaving me to believe that ABC rightly ditched it for Duel.  I can only hope.
