Historic TPIR set pieces up for auction

The items are the three doors with panels (both MDS and daytime 35 years) (!!!!) the two TPIR signs that were in the back of the audience, and the fourth Race Game curtain.

I don't get it, something that Barker spoke into or plonked his arse in goes from ten's of thousands of dollars, yet these items physically part of the set don't get any bidders at all?

Thing is, it's easier to get a microphone or chair inside your house, compared to that huge door frame. 10-feet-high won't fit inside most people's houses, and I'm sure it's at least 20-feet-long. In other words, about the size of a decent-sized living room.

Even the TPiR sign (sweet as it is for just 1 G) would prolly take up most of the wall.

Unless I missed a joke, then a WHOOOOOSH on me!

1.  It's early.

2.  None of these things are anything you can easily put in your living room (well, the audience signs, if you want your living room to look like a game show set).

Another factor to add in is shipping. I believe one of the auctions mentioned it would be about $1,000 to crate it and ship it out. So for the sign as it is going now, would cost as much it is shipping as is itself.

This auction is all wrong. They'd make so much more money if they cut the doors up into individual panels. It'd be a cheaper shipping deal, and more affordable to, uh, everyone interested in bidding.

The very old house I grew up in had sliding pocket doors between the living room and dining room.  How cool, I used to think, to have had the "Price" doors in their place.  I say go for it!

I mentioned a similar idea to a fellow board member last night, getting 100 people to put $20 or so each into buying the wall and shipping.  While the other person thought it was a good idea, I mentioned that at least one person would likely be disappointed if they got an all white background piece while another person got part of "THE PRICE IS RIGHT" or the big dollar sign.

If anything I'd hope these set items go into a collection where they will be cherished by many and on display.

Maybe that was the original idea by the crew by donating them to the museum who is now flogging them due to the size.

Agreed. C'mon, there were a total of 6 sets of doors. Surely at least one of them could be cut up and put up for auction. They's probably make more money that way, anyway. The only people who are gonna buy are probably the Smithsonian, the Museum of Broadcast Communications, and Bob Boden.

I must have misread the auction as I didn't see that initially.

I thought it was $1k including shipping. That thing would fit perfectly on my living room wall, although it's probably too damn heavy.

Also states it comes with light boxes. I'm wondering if this thing needs a lot of juice.
