The SF geeks are going to be bitching about that one for sure, just like they bitch about everything on Sci-Fi that isn't "BSG," "Doctor Who," shows that they liked that got cancelled or some reruns.

Boards or comment areas that get taken over by SF geeks are enough to convince you that Comic Book Guy isn't that much of an exaggeration.

Back on main topic--if they do it in a sort of Japanese style without getting too politically incorrect, it could be fun.

I'm thinking it's going to be similar to those Hideously-Altered Creature/Natural Disaster of the Week Flicks SF tends to air ad nauseum, snuffing out victims until only one remains.
