What was the first game show you could have seen?

I was born July 29, 1983 (I believe it was a Friday) at 1:20 am, so the first show I could've have seen was either The New $25,000 Pyramid on CBS, or whatever syndicated game show my local affiliate had on before Pyramid (if it did have a game show).

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

Instead of making Zach do all the research, why don't you do a little bit of your own?

I love this topic!

I was born on January 28, 1957 ... early on a Monday morning. Don't really know what games were on in early mornings back then.

To expand the topic a bit, I can tell you that the first games I remember getting into, were Video Village (I was about three-and-a-half years old, and vaguely remember Jack Narz hosting before Monty took over) ... and Concentration (I remember the original set, and what I believe was the original opening spiel and film).

By my fourth birthday, I had to have the home versions of both games. And yes, I was very good at playing them, even though the boxes suggested \"Ages 10 to adult\".

 1) Not having a basement full of TV Guides, I wouldn't have the first idea how to start, myself.

2) We have people here who not only know the sought-after information, but really like displaying the fact that they know it. I say, why not exploit them. :)

May 4, 1971. I'm guessing Concentration.

1/28/86, 3:42PM...

What was on at that time? It probably would've been something on CBS, assuming they had afternoon game shows still back then...

PYL had the 4PM EST time slot on CBS at the time(though those stations that even did carry PYL often did so earlier in the day at the time). However, game shows after 11:50AM EST that day(The Showcase of TPIR, last segment of Scrabble, SUper Password and PYL on the networks, and probably a number of syndie shows in many cities) were preempted for coverage of the Challenger disaster.

It was a Tuesday late-morning (10:45 CT) in 1975, so it could have been TPiR or WoF.  Considering 1975 was one of the biggest GS years on record, maybe I was destined to be a GS junkie.

EDIT: After seeing the lineup archive at Curt the A's page, only one network had a game show at the 11:30 (10:30 CT) half-hour--NBC with The Hollywood Squares.  (CBS countered with the soap opera Love of Life; ABC was out the competitive loop with repeats of The Brady Bunch.  Oh, the humanity!)

ObAlliume: Man, was my link to his page out of date!

I was born on Thursday, 10/10/74, at around 10:30am, just as \"Gambit\" was starting on CBS, and \"Winning Streak\" on NBC.

Additionally, all of who you are wondering \"what was on when I was born?\" can go to Curt Alliaume's web page at www.curtalliaume.com and find his daytime lineups for the big three networks from their inception until now.

What, there's no one on this forum old enough to answer Winner Take All? :)

November 16, 1981, late Friday afternoon. Looks like I'm stuck with a syndie until the next week rolled around, and I could enjoy the beginning of the very last week of Las Vegas Gambit.

Thursday, November 18, 1982, 7:03 am.

Now, last I checked, WTKR didn't air $25,000 Pyramid or Child's Play, but I *think* Wheel was on at 10:30 am.  If not, we'll just say TPiR or Wheel at 11 am.
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

Wheel was still airing at 10:30 a.m. in November 1982....It moved to 11 am on 1/3/83, the day that game shows made a harmonious return to NBC's lineup with SoTC, Hit Man, and Just Men! all premiering.

This should be a little easier

6/22/89 8:23AM I am not sure what I could have watched first (I live on west coast, if that makes a difference).
