Imagine if Barker called it quits after Season 25? Season 30?
« on: February 01, 2008, 08:41:13 PM »
I recently spoke with someone close to the show who had mentioned there were thoughts Barker was going to call it quits after 25 years.

Any thoughts on who could have taken over at that time? Since they eventually went with a name, makes me wonder who they would have chosen.

I always thought he should have stopped after Season 30. And I'm stumped for names on who could have replaced him immediately after season 30.
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

At 30 it probably would have been Todd Newton.

The only name I could think about at 25 would have been Doug Davidson.

/Barker should have quit at year 30
//he was still decent 25-29

Hmmm. Chuck Woolery's a possibility. If my time element's right, he'd just come off one of the Pyramid pilots and wasn't quite hired for The Dating Game yet.

Season 25, I'd guess David Ruprecht or Pat Finn.

Season 30, maybe Todd Newton. I think he was just getting into Whammy! by that point.

Season 25, I'd guess they might have gone for Peter Tomarken.

Season 30, Todd Newton or Marc Summers.

Maybe a little too early for John O'Hurley for Season 26 (Although TTTT was just around the corner), but definitely a candidate for Season 31.

Also a good candidate would've have been Michael Burger -- could have saved him from the S.S. Match Game Titanic.

And that was around the time that Gordon Elliott was back in game shows, albeit briefly.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

I think your years are a little bit off. Wasn't season 25 in 1995?

The year after...the anniversary special aired in August 1996. O'Hurley was still playing J. Petermann on Seinfeld, or about to start that role.

I DO like Gordon Elliott as a choice. Michael Burger too.
