A Supreme Court Justice invoked the story Harrison Bergeron in a dissenting opinion that advocated for retention of rights. How awesome is that?[/quote]
When in doubt, invoking Kurt Vonnegut is always a safe bet.

I would have thought the same about golf. I was wrong.

One is a profession. The other is not, unless your name is Jack Campion.

/don't get me started on the Martin case

The curious thing, to me at least, is that neither Martin's argument nor the Court's decision framed it as an employment case, as the word "profession" would suggest, but as public accommodation. IOW, they didn't view the PGA as an employer but in a group akin to hoteliers and restaurateurs.
Protecting idiots from themselves just leads to more idiots.

One late night when I was in college we got into the whole "if you had to lose one sense, which sense would that be?" question. And I said sight, reasoning that it would greatly hamper my desired career as a sports broadcaster if I couldn't, ya know, see the game.

I recall when Eddie Timanus was introduced, it was mentioned his occupation was a sports writer -- and at the time I got into a discussion of whether seeing games themselves is necessary in order to properly form an opinion or a take on sports in general -- but I suppose as long as you're able to at least hear or read a play-by-play and have a handle on the sport itself, he's proven it can be done..

his latest, for example:

I would think to actually make play-by-play calls, it would make sense that you'd have to actually see..

/losing sense of smell wouldn't be the end of the world.. :D

I attended a basketball game with Eddie, and attempted to do play-by-play for him.

Several times, he knew what had happened on the court well before I could spit it out.
