The curious thing, to me at least, is that neither Martin's argument nor the Court's decision framed it as an employment case, as the word "profession" would suggest, but as public accommodation. IOW, they didn't view the PGA as an employer but in a group akin to hoteliers and restaurateurs.

I recall when Eddie Timanus was introduced, it was mentioned his occupation was a sports writer -- and at the time I got into a discussion of whether seeing games themselves is necessary in order to properly form an opinion or a take on sports in general -- but I suppose as long as you're able to at least hear or read a play-by-play and have a handle on the sport itself, he's proven it can be done..
