DoND $1M missions
« on: February 19, 2008, 11:15:57 PM »
I just had a random access thought the other night:  What would happen if by some fluke of luck (or stupidity of the producers putting so damn many $1M in play) that by the time the contestant got to the 4 or 5th round, and all that ws left was the $1M cases?

Howie mentioned this a couple times before (most recently Monday). Basically the game ends and the dogs and ponies celebrate, because obviously the contestant would become a millionaire.

In one game, there were three cases left, two with the million and the third with a left-side amount (say $500). Howie basically set it up by telling the contestant(s) that if they chose the $500, the game ends because everyone knew they'd win $1 million regardless.

There was mention at least once that 13 $1 million cases would be the upper limit--none on the left side of the board.

And tonight is being advertised as the absolute final we ain't kiddin' M$M show for now--until they notice that they're up against "Moment of Truth" Monday night and an emergency show gets taped for *another* M$M.  Cynical, I know, but something just tells me...

And something tells me that no one wins the million tonight...how do I know? Call it intuition.

/That and the fact that NBC hasn't shown any commercials advertising it. :-P

You mean like when they had 9 million dollar cases and said that was the end of it... then at the very tail end of the show had the "banker call in" and announce that he "wasn't afraid of anyone" and that there would be a game with 10 cases? Then they just quit the whole "banker" bit and kept it going through 13.

The problem with this "mission" is that when you hit a number like 13 cases, it's either $1,000,000 or $750 tops. The ONLY way someone is going to win is by knocking out everything but $1,000,000 cases. You'd have to have brain damage to risk $500K for a chance at $1M (but I never said the contestants on this show weren't brain damaged!)

Wouldn't surprise me if they did it through 25.

With 13 $1m cases, even if they knocked out a few millions in the first 5 cases, wouldn't the first offer still be well over $200k?

Not anymore - they sent out a scheduling update this afternoon noting that the episode originally scheduled for tonight is being moved to Monday and replaced with a non-mission episode (don't know if it's new or repeat).

Which was exactly how it was last week -- the mission game that began on 2/11 was "interrupted" on Wednesday 2/13, with another new episode played "regulation style" (with one $1m case), with the M$M game continued 2/18.

Apparently, DOND could not take the heat against "American Idol" on Wednesdays.
