For the past few episodes, I've noticed Ray buzzing in so fast Alex is still reading as the opponent's booth is closing. My question: Does that player hear or see the clue in its entirety, or as the booth closes (was that a soap opera? Sorry) does the sound in the booth stop? Thanks for any input!

I wondered this myself. I know that Alex stated several times that music plays in the booth when the curtain is closed. I remember him asking contestants if they were enjoying it. 'In my opinion', I think that once someone buzzes in, the outside sound is cutoff and the music comes on as the curtain is closing. You may notice some contestants getting in position to peer at the board trying to read what they can of the clue before the curtain closes completely.

I seem to remember someone else discussing this previously either here or on the newsgroup ages ago. I tried researching back to no avail.

I've wondered that, too, because it would have a pretty big impact on the game. Ray is awesome, and totally saddled with impossible Spoilers boards. (At least up to when I had to stop watching and go to bed.)

They haven't been that impossible. Ray is as bad at The Spoilers as he is good at the front game. I see him pass up clues he really should be giving all. the. time.

You *cannot* play The Spoilers conservatively and expect to win. If you think a clue MIGHT get by, you HAVE to give it. The boards are usually set up so that you're forced to give at least one marginal clue, and if you stand there and say "hmm, this one might not be it," you will lose.
