What's In The Box?
« on: March 19, 2008, 04:52:35 AM »
Accordibg to Buzzerblog, TV Land has greenlit a pilot for a game show in which teans compete for cash & prizes.  The idea is sinple:  ask up to 20 questions about what exactly is in the box.  The trick is to do so without giving any hints to your opponents.  Whoever guesses correctly wins a cash jackpot & goes on to play for the grand prize.  A simple game of strategy eh?  Sounds like "Inside The Box" from Canada to me.

P.S.:  "What's In The Box?" is just a working title right now.  As always, stay tuned for more info when it becomes available.

Hmmm - 20 Questions meets Art Linkletter's old "What's In The House" game. I'll be interested in finding out more. Hope TV Land doesn't make the show self-promotional to save money. "You're correct! The box contains a comb used by Redd Foxx on the set of Sanford and Son!"

Note:  The link has a semi-colon where the "l" should be.

But considering the source...

You're right, the concept is insane. "What's My Line?" and "I've Got A Secret" were complete flops using the 20 Questions meme.

Not to mention it lasted 5 years on television under that title.

But those, of course, had the hook of the game being played by various shades of celebrity.  Would it work with teams of civilians, especially considering the quality of contestant that seems to be taken by most American game shows these days not named "Jeopardy!"?

Absolutely a reasonable question. I was merely intending to comment on the blanket "Twenty Questions? As a game show? No wai!" statement.

Now, if they have Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake asking what's in the box...or do we already know in that case?
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

Is it bigger than a bread box?  Never mind; if it is, I don't want to know what you've been taking.

20 questions...  I remember such a gameshow in Italy in the 80s, but can't remember if it was the same game.   I do remember it was really named "twenty questions" in English

Contestant: "Is it a pie?"
Host: "No, it's not a pie."
Contestant: "It's a pie! I'm sure of it! You're lying!"

Then yes, you have problems. (And I think I remember some sort of sketch show bit built upon that very premise...) It if was done like Inside the Box, where the other contestants are responsible for providing the yeses and noes, then you might have something. (And I don't think it's all that far fetched, given what we have from the thread.)

What's next: "WHAT DID I EAT" (by smelling my breath not anything else more sinister)?

TV Land is slowly imploding.
