ABC Summer Schedule...

here's the full release...

the main game/reality show dates:

The Mole- May 26th (Mondays 10-11)

Wipeout (think "Ninja Warrior")- June 24th (Tuesdays 8-9)

I Survived a Japanese Gameshow- June 24th (Tuesdays 9-10)

Wanna Bet?-July 21st (Mondays 9-10)

QFT.  I have a feeling it's either going to be really good or really bad.  Hope it's the former.

Wipeout or something similar was inevitable.  Despite being a big fan of Ninja Warrior and the like, I'm on the fence right now, but I'll give it a look.

"Wipeout" is being produced by the same people who made "Fear Factor"- but they're not going for gross-out or scares this time, they're going for the slapstick of people getting eliminated on the courses....so I think this has a good shot.

"Japanese Gameshow" is either gonna hit or miss fast...we've been seemingly on a Japanese GS kick in the video section, so it could work, depending on if it's an homage or more of a parody....

"The Mole"'s new host doesn't worry me too much- this series has always been more about the game and the play-along factor, not the host.

"Wanna Bet?" is a wildcard to me- Ant and Dec are good hosts in the UK- I don't know if it'll translate over here however (and they should have picked "Pokerface" over this one IMO)...

Of course, of the other shows in the release, you just know the one that'll probably hit is the "High School Musical" reality series....they're giving it two eps a week the first few weeks, so ABC must be hoping so as well...

If "JG" has *anything* related to Gaki no Tsukai (just search for crazy japanese game show and the torture device known as the "chinko" machine and you'll see what I mean), then it's appointment TV for me.

Hell -- throw in some ol' Endurance games and I'm there.  Hopefully this is the start of Japanese format fremantling full speed.

Is that the riding-crop-on-a-mousetrap thing that thwaps people in the nutz when they can't recite a tongue twister? That thing is awesome.

I have to admit, I'm less than thrilled with this.  I never like The Mole, Wipeout doesn't sound interesting (to me)...Wanna Bet seems good (I could like Ant and Dec) but that JG show...

...that will be the greatest thing to ever grace television screens in American game show history (if it happens, of course).  :)

Is JG the game "based off of the Human Tetris" concept that was mentioned a while back?  I could have sworn it was for Fox....

You'd be correct.  Johnny Knoxville and Co. wish they were the Gaki no Tsukai crew.

Would it be correct to say that the last player on the clip is a non-civilian player (either a celeb or a member of of the show's staff)?

They need one of those contraptions for the presidential debates!  :)

/Wished that ABC's Wipeout was based on that show from the 80's
