That what it first sounded like, but Mark Burnett and the arena producers AEG Live (behind the "Idol" and "Dancing With the Stars" tours) have agreed to do arena shows based on his series:

I had heard rumors about a year ago of a Broadway stage musical version of "The Apprentice," but haven't heard anything lately.  Seems to me that the arena show would work well for "My Dad..."--but unfortunately, that show's near death.

The BBC and a third party did produce a 30 minute spoof musical based on The Apprentice. Namely called, The Applicants. Comedian John Thompson portrayed Sir Alan Sugar.

"Springer:  The Opera" is a brilliant piece of satire on television and American life.  I don't think either Springer or NBC Universal is making a dime off of it.

What Burnett's doing is nothing more than making money off of his hits.

I'm reminded of an episode of The Critic ("Marty's First Date," as a matter of fact) where Jay and his son are standing outside a movie theatre, and Jay says something to the effect of "All Hollywood is capable of these days is recycling old tv shows from the 1970s."

He then looks up at a poster for "Family Feud: The Movie."

/And "M*A*S*H: the Movie of the TV Show, Not the Original Movie"
//"The Oscar is named for Oscar Meyer, producer of bland, overpriced baloney."
