What do these triads have in common?

Dick Clark, Bill Cullen, Anita Gillette
Tom Kennedy, Jack Narz, Steven Ford

BTW, I believe each triad is unique with respect to the relevant show.

Here's my guess:

Dick, Bill and Anita have all played Pyramid, 2 of which were hosts.

Tom, Jack and Steven have all played Password Plus, 2 of which were hosts.

They both are setups of cases when a host that was usually linked to a series played the game.

Dick Clark, Bill Cullen, Anita Gillette: Pyramid (namely Dick's first appearance as a guest on Cullen's version)
Tom Kennedy, Jack Narz, Steven Ford: Password Plus (at the tail end of the run)

If this is what Jay's looking for, then we're talking very specifically about the syndicated version of The $25,000 Pyramid, since Cullen made many appearances on Clark's versions over the years with lots of female opponents, and Jay specifically said that he though each triad was unique.  (Clark made two visits to Cullen's show, but Jay could be forgiven not knowing that.)

Still, it's hardly rare for a host to end up playing his own game at one point or another.  Allen Ludden, Peter Marshall, Bert Convy, Hugh Downs and Pat Sajak, just to name a few big, obvious ones, have each played their own signature games.  I'm wondering if Jay had something more specific in mind.

Just a little more specific, and that's where the third parties come in: Anita Gillette was not merely the first person to face Clark (at least by air date). She faced Clark and Cullen, each with the other hosting.

What got me thinking about this is all the combinations of Password hosts who have appeared on each other's shows. To wit:
Cullen under Ludden, Kennedy and Convy
Convy under Ludden and Kennedy
Kennedy under Ludden and Convy

To make it more interesting, during the ABC run, Betty White hosted for a week when Ludden played against Paul Williams. (She also played both with and against Ludden, but only in charity games.) Add to that in her last appearance on P+, her opponent was Regis Philbin!

But with all this, that one-day switch by the Narz brothers was the only instance of two Password hosts facing the same opponent with the other hosting.

Those who don't like my sense of humor can stop reading now, but wouldn't Bob Barker and Richard Dawson also qualify?  Two Password hosts (Convy and Narz) faced them with the other one hosting.  Sure, it was on "Tattletales," but it happened. :)
