Here is how I did it back in the day:

Example:
Roll #1, Play the first 5 dice (reading bottom to top) show 2,2,4,2,6...I elect to keep the 2's.
Roll #2 & 3, I covered up the 3 bottom dice with my hand and play the 4th & 5th dice in the handle, electing to "keep" or "pass" on the remaining dice.

I never counted the 6th die, unless we played "Wild Card" Yahtzee.

Remembering what I "kept", I'd mark down the score(s) in the appropriate column(s).

Obviously, there was a little more "memory" involved versus the traditional game where you just took dice out of play and only roll the remaining one(s), but the trade-off was that the dice never got loose in the car -- Only the pen/pencil every once in a while!

I found the Travel Yahtzee roller to be fine . . . except when it eventually broke. Or when you got one that wouldn't lock solidly. But it doubled as a stress reliever, so I still liked it.

I once witnessed a game of Monopoly played in a car, using nothing but the subscription card from a random magazine, a pencil, and a TI-83. I was the banker.

...I don't think I ever got the urge to play anything in the back seat of a car again for a good five or six years.

Well, I (along with one or two others) embarrassingly have the board and most of the property values memorized, so that's how we knew all that. We kept track of everyone's cash and properties on the card, and rolled our dice with a good old RANDINT(1,6) function. For Chance/Community Chest, we just asked someone in the front seat to name a card, and that's what the person 'drew'.

I can attest to having about 95% of Monopoly minutiae memorized as well. I have no idea why I know all of it so well.

I learned early on there's 10 spaces between corners, and 10 spaces between the railroads.

Exactly. This comes into play even more if you frequent Trivial Pursuit, because Uncle Jim Bob will roll a 4 and before he can even begin his beard-stroking survey of the board, you go "there's a roll again..."

This truly frightens me. Not that Mark is able to do that, but that this chick is surprised and irritated by it.

When she rolls and moves, she counts out the individual spaces, doesn't she?

It's amazing how many people don't know that when you're bouncing around the hub, you have your pick of the litter in terms of questions so long as you don't come out on the same spoke you came in on.
