Feeling old because of a birthday banner
« on: May 06, 2008, 10:17:29 PM »
The banner noting Rossi Moreale's date of birth made me realize I'm older than he is. I'm trying to figure out who was the first game show host younger than me (11/29/63). So far, it appears that Ryan Seacrest (1974) on Click holds that distinction. Was there someone before that?

For everyone else that qualifies, who was the first host younger than you?

You forgot JD Roth (1968).

The answer for me is Seacrest by a well-moussed hair.

I was born in 1987, and as far as I know, I don't even think any hosts were born in 1980 or later.

You're feeling old, and now I'm feeling unaccomplished. I'm turning 21 this summer, and both JD and Ryan had alreast hosted their first shows by then. Me? Just a makeshift version of College Family Feud.

Fact To Make You Feel Old: Just about every contestant who appears in a Price is Right Teen Week episode from here on out has only known a world where Drew Carey has been the host.

There, I've put you out of your misery.

It's never occurred to me to find the first game show host younger than me.   I'm three years younger than Ken Ober so it's looking like mine might be JD Roth.

I'm slightly older than Obama, so I may have that threshold broken come November.

'Twould be Roth for me too, but Todd Newton (1970, per Wiki) would be my second-place choice (and makes me wish I had been born about four years later :) ).

IMDb says Graham Elwood was born in 1969...

Don't know of any hosts born after November 18, 1982...

For Matt, Mark L. Walberg would be closer than Roth and for Jay, George Gray.  If I (10/27/60) ever get a show, I would be between Matt and Mark.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I was born in 1990. I have a hard time believing any current game show hosts are younger than me. :)

You youngsters today, with your interwebs and your hip hops.  Back in my day, we had to make due with what we had.   Cable television only came with 30 channels, computer monitors only had 256 colors, and we walked 15 feet, in the snow, uphill, to the school bus stop.  Both ways.  We didn't have iPods or D-V-D or ADHD to occupy our time with, so we made due with whittlin' sticks and cassette players - I bet you don't even know what those are! We were simple folk living in simple times.  Now get off my lawn.

Not exactly game show related, but I'm always amused when I go cover a NASCAR race and the driver I am interviewing is younger than I am.

After Todd Newton (happy belated birthday!), the next one is Kennedy (1971) which happens to be mine since Todd is about two months older than me.

I was born in 1957, and I remember watching Bill Cullen on a gas-operated TV.

In my case, the question is are there any hosts OLDER than me...other than Wink, I'm not sure, especially with Barker done.
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

Actually, the question as presented is a little trickier than just how close you are to somebody's birthday.  The question was who was the first host younger than you.  Fun House debuted in 1988.  Walberg wasn't on TV until 1991 with Shop Til You Drop, and didn't host until Free 4 All.  So yes, I'm closer to Walberg in age, but Roth was the first host younger than me.

Best I can tell, for just about anybody in their forties, the answer to the question as posed is going to be JD Roth.
