Oh dear: Last night's episode pulled a series-low rating for a first run episode.

The next season of prime-time "Deal" might very well be its last.

Now you know why NBC decided to flip around the Philippines and Estonia episodes -- Estonia was originally scheduled for Monday and the Filipino show for Wednesday. Instead, they decided to put the more-flashier Flipino show on Monday and the more-staid Estonia show on Wednesday, against stronger competition -- especially CBS's TPIR.

All depends on how well it does on the other nights. It is very likely, though that this will be the last season for the Wednesday edition, if ratings indicate.

And on a related note, per TV WEEK's website, the TPIR Million Dollar Spectaculars which now air on Wednesdays have been losing steam as well (compared to when they aired on Fridays).

I agree that nighttime Deal is at least on the back-stretch approaching the final turn.  Time for NBC and Endammitol to start coming up with another brainless game show format with goofy gimmicks that takes 8+ hours of production to create a one hour episode.

Is it possible that NBC might cancel the show next year, if the ratings go down even further?

No, it's not. The Deal people have a contract with NBC that stipulates that THEY are the only ones who get to cancel the show. If it's pulling hash marks and Endemol still wants it on, then it stays on, and there is not one thing that NBC can do about it aside from sucking up the multi-million-dollar financial hit.

At least at first glance, this seems like an unintelligent move on NBC's part.  Does anyone know when Deal was essentially given tenure?

...would you rather have the models dancing or marching down the steps?
[/quote]

I'd rather have 26 other contestants holding the boxes, and waiting for their turns to play.  I know it ain't gonna happen, but--and I say this as red-blooded and model-loving as anybody--I'd rather see other players than models.

But I know that wasn't one of my options.  So: march on.  Let's get to the damn game already, what little of it there is.

Then they should have used the Australian version, which does exactly that.
