Carol Vorderman quits Countdown. Des too!

First on Wednesday Des quit after 3 years.

Then today, after having been on the program since it started nearly 26 years ago, Carol decided to leave *as well*

Wow...that's a shocker.  I wonder what they are going to do now, since the both faces of Countdown are going to be gone (Carol and Richard).

It's a real shame.  It's a quality program.
When you're at the grocery game and you hear the beep, think of all the fun you could have at "Crazy Rachel's Checkout Counter!"

I think that Channel 4 ought to think about letting Countdown go out on a high note here. I've actually preferred Des O to Richard Whiteley, but I think it's been shaken up enough times in the last few years and there's only so much you can do to the game format to keep it fresh.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

I think they should hire Stacey Hayes.

There certainly are comparisons that could be made to a certain American daytime game show that long since passed over into "landmark" territory.  A British friend of mine now living over here tells me that while there is still a cult following for the show, it is typically seen by the general public as a series old people watch.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

Because the game would move faster, of course. ;)

Sure, we've got our abbas and our bobbys, but I sure wish I could've been there for characters like that. =)

The search for new Countdown presenters (I love this word) has ended.

Very classy-looking.  Cynic in me would be expecting a navel-bareing type with spiky or very long hair, which seems to fit most of the 20something "presenters" on British TV.

I also assume that she doesn't affect a cockney/working class accent, which is also something most of the young hosts do (even if they went to Oxford or Cambridge).

Given that the link describes her as an "Essex girl," don't count on her sounding too posh. (Jamie Oliver comes to mind as an example of an Essex accent.)
