Yes, there is a famous brand of baked beans called B&M. Brick-oven baked beans. They are very good.

Someone who's still in New England, please refresh my memory: Is/Was there a brand of baked beans named B&M?[/quote]
There is. Considering the two letters involved, the irony is delicious. :)

Rapper EM &M? :)

Questions that call for opinions (especially political ones) in Super Match aren't going to work.  Hopefully they'll rectify that before the series starts.

Super Match is where the contestant has a shot at the big money. You don't go for the funny; you play it straight. You stick with "Bread and (BLANK)". Besides, "Hillary Clinton is a (BLANK)" isn't funny or clever if you don't go for the provocative answer. Hillary Clinton is a woman, a politician, a lawyer -- there is nothing funny or clever about those. For that matter there is nothing funny about calling her a bitch or a c**t, either.

As for fixing it by the time it goes to series, if this is what they're doing for the pilot, I doubt they will suddenly "get it" by airtime.

One wonders if they think they are playing to a right-wing / conservative / Obama-supporting audience with this pilot.

Sorry I left everyone in suspense. I figured that the 3 letters one would see on a "____ & M" audience match would be S, M, and A. And I did mean to include "S&M" as an interesting answer that wouldn't turn me off the show anymore than someone saying "boob" in the 70s would.

Suddenly I just thought...

Considering the decade and the times, do you suppose that you could've slipped "S&M" in on the '70s show if you were a writer and really wanted to push the envelope?

(Why I'm thinking of this I don't know...)

No.  You would've gotten smacked by S&P. :)

That's assuming S&P knows S&M.  There are legendary stories about people putting one by a censor just because a censor is clueless about the reference.

I'm sure a very sharp producer and associate producer would have caught it long before S&P got involved.

That's true, but I'm sure they were bound by orders from an authority figure who would have whipped them into obeying the rules of the game.  Submission of something like that would have batted a lash or two.

Old man Goodson would be the only authority figure they'd have to worry about, and Ira and Bobby didn't need him to tell them how to pick material. I don't see where the rules of the game were being violated.

If I'm remembering correctly:

There was a Super Match that read simply "T ____ A."  Two answers given were "W" and "V." The celebrity who gave the third, "and," was apprehensive about his answer and asked if he were allowed to give it.  Gene didn't have the slightest clue why the answer would be inappropriate.
