Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?
« on: July 05, 2008, 10:35:39 AM »
I've only been watching for 30 minutes and I'm ready to recreate the beginning of SCTV with my television.  Who possibly thought this surf music motif was a good idea?

I guess they're slowly building towards the premiere of "Catch 21".

I have only been watching for 30 minutes and that song has already become annoying. I don't know if it is as annoying as
B-I-N-G-O, yet.

Slowly?  Catch 21 premieres in just over 2 weeks.  If this was any other GSN original, it would be promoted during the credits of every program, as the first commercial in any block of ads, and with some crappy graphics which block the bottom quarter of the screen for 15 seconds.

Catch 21 was mentioned briefly in an ad I saw within the last half hour, but no mention of a premiere date, or any imagery or audio.

Can't say I'm a fan of the campaign, by and large.  The ads annoying as hell, and the network image being presented in the campaign doesn't really match what's airing on the schedule at-large at the moment.  A feel-good retro style summer image campaign doesn't seem like a solid fit for Millionaire, the poker shows, Russian Roulette, etc. (Lots of modern, and therefore usually darker, shows) - which make up a majority of the schedule.

/Nevermind that, again, a lot of the spots are just..not good.
//GSN's in-house promos haven't been particularly good since the early part of the decade, IMO.

They just mentioned it by itself and it said it will premiere on July 21st at 7:30pm.

Well, the solution for this would be obvious, wouldn't it?

It's already past that IMO (and only after one day to boot)

I wonder if GSN is going to change this up a little. I mean, can they really play this same song for the whole summer?

But that eventually stopped.

More importantly, is Head On even being advertised anymore?
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

I believe I saw a commercial on GSN the other day. But this one had the woman talking about how it changed her life.

Rule #4555

If you're going to parody a song, have Weird Al write the lyrics.

As a Beach boys fan, I cringe a little when I hear the "Catch a Wave" parody.

As far as I'm concerned, the only decent Beach Boys parody is the opening number in Top Secret.

The Winker's sold-then-unsold to CBS game's theme music from 1988 had lyrics?
