I spent a few minutes at the Mount Airy Lodge Casino in the Poconos (NE Pennsylvania) in early June. I don't recall the entire list of what I saw but I can relate that Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right and Deal or No Deal slots were there. The WOF and DOND machines seemed to be in more prominent locations (but I'm not an expert on this).

The play rules of the machines seem to be much more complicated than the rules of the actual game on which they are based.

I've recently come back from Harrah's Rincon in San Diego... I don't know what's going on with those 25 cent slots there, but nearly every 10 pulls of the handle (or push of the max bet button) on every machine was paying off a spin of the wheel which rarely DID NOT stop on 100.
The $1 machines were doing the same thing. 24/7 you's rarely see a seat empty on those WOF machines....

For those of you familiar with Casino Arizona I in Phoenix/Scottsdale, they have a pretty high pay rate as well....

Having finished my Krispy Kreme BLT, it's back to the slots...

For those of you who don't follow the darn things, modern slots use random number generators (think a million dice rolling a million times every second) to decide what you will see as a result when you push the button. It is conceivable that if you hit the button at the exact nanosecond five times in a row, you will see five jackpots. However, the vast majority of those numbers are set to "pay nothing back" or "pay back less than was deposited." So don't believe you will hit machines that are "hot." There ain't no such animal.

And don't forget - all slots are the same inside, no matter the theme on the outside - donuts, bacon or Rod Roddy. (If the slots audience tires of, say, a car race theme, there are conversion kits that will quickly change the same machine to a donut or bacon theme. Therefore, for all we know, those TPIR slots are still there, only with graphics promoting Batman, fishing or the flag.)

A full explanation can be found here. To summarize it...
Each position on a slot machine is mapped. The "Double Jackpot" symbol may be mapped to #20. However, the blank space above it may be numbers 12-19, and the blank space below it 21-28. As DrBear stated, one number for each slide is randomly generated.

He's claiming that the machine was set so loose that it was paying out ten times what it was taking in. Which is patently ridiculous.

And the winnar is you. I can't speak to Dunkin, but if they are anything like Winchell's, I'm gonna guess they're wholly unremarkable. KK's have their place, but if you put a dozen of those next to a dozen from Safeway, I'll take the Safeway one nine times out of ten. Donuts should be able to be chewed. They should not melt.

For the most part, yes.

Around here Farm Fresh has pretty decent donuts...I don't think Southeastern Virginia has seen a Safeway, but next time I visit Maryland, I might have to make a stop there.

You don't necessarily need a Safeway. "Fresh grocery-store-bakery donut" is an adequate substitute in my previous statement. The ones at Albertson's and Fred Meyer around here are awfully good too.
