Will The Price Is Right be on the air 10 years from now? What do you think?

I give it two years, max.

Now maybe 11 years from now, it comes back in syndication.

I say the current version lasts until Season 40.

Ask this question again after the season premiere.  I'm not convinced at all the show is going to see any major changes.

Seconded. Most of this is 3 days of rumors gone wild.

But I do think that a third option should be added : Still airing , but after a hiatus. Not 47 consecutive seasons.

Even if there are no major changes (which is certainly plausible), it's hard for me to fathom the show has 10 more years of shelf life in it.  I have no evidence as to why--but it's just a feeling.

I really want to believe you.  Seriously.  It's just that Fremantle just got a new "toy" to play with and do with whatever that seemingly want...I still feel there's going to be some "destructible" change to the show, based on their previous attempts.

But then, there's Family Feud, which they seemingly "fixed" a couple of seasons ago.

You did see Card Sharks 2001, didn't you? They even botched MG '98 without "major changes", just bad implementation. Fremantle doesn't have a very good record of "fixing" things.

It would have been very interesting to have taken this poll, say, a week ago and compared the results to what we have here.  Or for that matter, to have taken it when Barker announced he was retiring, or when Carey was chosen as a replacement, or any number of other Chicken Little moments that seem to have come up in the last couple of seasons.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

At this point, I'm leaning toward saying no, TPIR won't make it to the 2018-19 season -- but its demise will be due to "broadcast network television" not existing in the same form 10 years from now, rather than any Fremantle-related format changes.

I'm saying no, and not because of the changes that we are gradually seeing over the years or ratings.  I'm thinking CBS will either grow tired of it, or Moonves will be replaced by someone who will think that something fresh would draw more ratings than something "so washed up," at least in his opinion.

Just curious... how did you feel when the show was in Season 25? Did you think it had 10 more years of life then?

Just because I'm interested in what the answer would be, do you see anything in particular in terms of how things will change?

I voted no, and partly because of what trainman said above.  Will network daytime television even exist in 10 years?  Maybe the networks will broadcast in primetime only by then.  Judging by the events of the past couple of years, I think eventually this will run its course.  If it does go syndication, I think it could still get several more years in though.
