Yet another countdown to doomsday is on.
Click this here link and scroll down a wee bit:

As of this typing, it's the third story on the page.

Doomsday??? I think some of us around here would consider it to be all sunshine and flowers from here.

That said, tvgameshows.net did pave the way for BuzzerBlog and GSNN. Steve was first to prove that a game show news site could work.

There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.

Did I just read him quoting himself in the third person?

What. A. HACK.

And if he paved the way for anyone, it was by doing such a piss-poor job that people sat up and said "hell, *I* can do better than that."

Can't say that I care, really.

And yes, he references himself in the third person several times in the article.  Jeepers.

From his page, emphasis mine:

Quote
TVgameshows.net originator and webmaster Steve Beverly said Sunday: "In a sense, this has not been a difficult decision. As our friend and Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! executive producer Harry Friedman has said when changes are made to either of his shows: 'The time is right.'"

That is my favorite hackjob thing in the world, really. When he quotes himself in an article, as if he had an interview with one of his multiple personalities or something. It makes my day to read his site when he does that, and that's what I'll miss about the Perf.

There's a glaring error on the first headline:

"DOBKOWITZ OUT AS EXECUTIVE PRODUCER OF PRICE IS RIGHT"

'Nuff said.

I find it odd that he quotes himself in third person, but then reverts to the first person by saying "our friend"...
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

A common Beverly affectation, one that even I, as one of his bigger defenders, really can't defend.

Yet in twelve years, no one has.  Buzzerblog certainly comes close, and I'm sure a lot of people prefer it just on the principle of Anything But Steve.  But despite his faults and flaws, real or imagined (and not nearly as multitudinous as his critics want to believe) he has done more for the love of game shows than any other website, and if he really does close up shop, it leaves a void.

The executive producer of TPiR is Syd Vinnedge. Roger was simply the producer.

You captured my motivation for starting Buzzer *perfectly.* Right down to the exact quote, no less.

I'm curious: name them?

'Cuz I do see Matt's point. I think Beverly's a hack and a poor spokesperson for our fandom, but he does seem to run the news site (which is very different from a message board - and the reason you get a lot of the news here is because we have quite a few short-bussers who parrot him at every opportunity) that most people keep track of. Since I don't read him, I hear about him most of the time when he's wrong, which probably clouds my image of him in terms of his accuracy. But I also don't read him because of his day-to-day ethics and practices (his editorializing, self-promotion, etc.) that have nothing to do with whether he's factually correct or not.

I have huge problems with professional game show fans representing themselves as, or being represented as, authorities on the subject. Want to know something about Hollywood Squares? Go to Merrill Heatter or Jay Redack or Steve Radosh or our own Brian Conn. Guys like the Perfesser are outsiders to the industry and their information comes largely from hearsay and Internet mythology IMO.

Identifying Roger as "executive producer" proves my point.

Concentration would be an exception, though. Whatever you do, DO NOT call Norm Blumenthal.
