I really wish I could see a station list for that...I'm pretty sure it's not going to be airing on WNBC (in fact, I'm pretty sure it's headed for WPIX, airing between Steve Wilkos and Judge Mathis), but I'm just curious.

I was looking at Bonnie Hunt's show site, and WNBC is going to be airing it...at 2 PM.

I wonder what this is going to mean for the rest of the daytime lineup there...I'm fairly sure they're not going to give up Judge Joe Brown at 3 and they already have Martha and Deal signed up there...maybe Days is moving back to 1 PM? Who knows?

While watching the Olympics on NBC last night, I saw a promo for the syndicated DoND showing Howie & his crew "training" for the syndicated show in a workout type manner.  This leads me to believe my local NBC affiliate is carrying it.  The question will be at what time.  I'll keep an eye for the time slot.

Here's what's happening in the DC and Baltimore markets:

Sept. 8

* DC - WJLA-7 gets the rights to WWTBAM from WUSA-9, and evicts Crosswords from 12:30 p.m. to make room.
* Balt - WBAL-11 also evicts Crosswords from its double-run slot at 2 p.m. to make room for Bonnie Hunt
* DC - WDCA-20 moves the double-run of Feud from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in order to pair it up with the double-run of DoND at 5 p.m.
* Balt - Feud moves from WBFF-45 (Single-run at 1 p.m.) to WUTB-24 (Double-run at 2 p.m.)  because WBFF is making room for DoND (Split double-run at 1 & 6 p.m.)

Or you could just go to the show website, like most normal people, find out that way, and save yourself the trouble.

(The only thing I'm not sold on is the time limit...If they want to go that way,  I'd rather them have a bank of time to start, then add time for each question, so if they want to spend a little more time on a question, fine, but it'll cost them later on- but this should in theory up the number of contestants playing)

I'd always thought a time limit would help the show, but I was thinking more in minutes, not seconds.  Giving only 30 or 45 seconds for a question will dramatically change the tempo of the game and is a very intriguing idea.  (You'll want to immediately answer the first five easy ones to pocket some time, and that means no horsing around even with a funny one.)  I'm not sure I like it until I see it in action, but it certainly will make the Hot Seat that much warmer.

I thought there was always a time limit in that you can't just sit there and stare at the question,  you actually have to be talking to Meredith, trying to work it out, or plot your strategy. I'm confused about how the time bank works, too. The article mentions that any time saved up can be used on the $1m question, but later it says any unused time is carried forward. (I don't think anyone would lock down an answer early only to carry that time through to the big fella: out of thousands of contestants, all of six have reached the pinnacle of the game.)

Of the changes, I'm less "distressed" about the lifeline changes, because they impact the game the least. But the time bank and the category board seem like unnecessary additions to a game that was great because it was so simple in execution.

I think I like most of the changes. Wait and see type of thing, of course. But it's almost a completely different game now.

Categories: brilliant. Such a subtle change, but it makes a risk worth a reward if you know your Shakespeare. Viewers will want to see what the $100K question on "ice cream" is too.

New lifelines: I hate to think that 50:50 is going by the wayside, but Double Dip is enough of a "certain" lifeline that I don't think it will be missed too much.

Clock: I'm fine with this. I would have been fine with it if it had been introduced on Meredith's day one. It's going to cause contestants to be in the zone that much more, and the pace should be much better as well.

Not different enough that it should scare long-time viewers, but yes, this is a very different game than we're used to.

EDIT: To Travis: on the Regis version, contestants were allowed to take as much time as they wanted, bar none. Of course, that's within reason. But there was no official time limit. I doubt there was a limit on Meredith's version, because so much could be edited out.

Are we sure that the contestant gets to see the category list? The press release says the viewer gets to see what's coming up, but there's nothing about the contestant getting to see the list...

I have two ideas on what it would be, but that's irrelevant to the conversation.

I have to agree with Alex in his rollover clock idea--the idea that your bonus time goes into a question that you'll never get to isn't that great, but considering it takes only 5 seconds to answer your standard Tier 1 question, it doesn't seem that bad.  My preference for time limits would've been 30/60/120, but to be honest, I'd still have no limit given the option.

In Regis' version it was made very clear that there was no time limit and they would edit out especially long pauses.  As I recall from in-studio storytelling, only one player really took that to a preposterous extreme.

If they ever established a time limit for Meredith's version, I never heard about it.  (Paging Mr. Mackey.  Mr. Dave Mackey, white courtesy phone!)  But trying to enforce a "sit there and stare" rule would be awfully tough.

I'm sure some contestants won't like the questions that turn up in categories where they expect to do well. Viewers may not, either, which makes me wonder whether this will make for better television. My definitive example (which I would LOVE to see on J! in a slightly different form) is this, in the category MUSIC:

A below middle C has a frequency of 440 Hz. Which note has a frequency of 880 Hz?
A. the A below that one
B. B below middle C
C. middle C
D. the A above middle C

(The answer is D. Any note has a frequency double that of the same note, one octave lower.)
