Has there ever been a time in which Monty only got ONE player/couple for the Big Deal?[/quote]
What part of "they go through the list again and someone invariably changes their mind" don't you seem to be following?

As for the guy who wanted the elephant, Monty had to shell out $30,000 to the person, in exchange for the animal--as it was the going rate then.

I remember hearing about that.  There was something in TVGuide in the late '70s that talked about game show prizes, and that particular contestant was a farmer who preferred to have the elephant.  Funny story!

Funny--while watching today's choice rerun, Hall discussed exactly that point.  According to Hall, if they don't get two traders to go for the Big Deal, other people in the audience would get the opportunity.

And on today's episode, not only did a zonked player get in the Big Deal, she won to the tune of $10,163!

IIRC a player who was zonked with two steers,  kept them. Probably made great steaks.
