Rich List Revival Coming to GSN!
« on: August 30, 2008, 01:41:13 PM »
I believe it was talked about before that someone was looking to revive this show. Well now it is known that GSN is the network that was looking to revive it.

The important things are Fred Roggin is going to host the show, and the show will have returning champions going for $50,000. It will also be an hour long with 2 games played within the hour. The game play is pretty much the same.

I would love to know what joker programming executive thought reviving a show that lasted EXACTLY ONE SHOW (and so freaking heavily promoted during a major sporting event even) was a good idea.

If there's any fail left in the fail truck, dump it at GSN.

I dunno, but the fact that the same executive thought Fred Roggin would be a good host should tell you a lot about how this person thinks.

True that.  I tried to watch boxing during the Olympics.  It hurt too much.

...also while checking his Wiki, he did curling during the '06 games.  Boy that's gonna suck in two years.

Several of us are hoping to mitigate the suck by attending live. THAT'S how bad Fred Roggin is. :)

While it wasn't perfect, if NBC does their online coverage like they did this year, you betchya I'll be watching online.

(It was live picture and audio, but no commentators.)

Getting back on topic here, I expect the money ladder to be the same as the British and New Zealand versions:

3 answers: $5,000
6 answers: $10,000
9 answers: $15,000
12 answers: $25,000
15 answers: $50,000

Live curling vs Roggin, and Roggin loses.  I think no more needs to be said.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

You know, I'm not terribly bothered by this at all. A weird choice for a revival (with an outright bizarre host choice) but it could be reasonably enjoyable to watch.

That's it Ottinger, next time I'm curling, you're coming.

Maybe the GSN programming executive likes oddly shaped bread rolls.

The top prize was to be $100,000, but the other $50,000 is going towards all of the cue cards Roggin needs in order to do his job properly.

I thought the main problem with the Fox version was, while the ratings weren't that bad, they didn't cover the amounts of money that had been won by contestants on later shows, so they cancelled the show and invoked the "we don't have to pay you if we don't air the episodes you were on" clauses of the contestants' agreements.

With a lower prize structure and less of an expectation for ratings, it just might work - after all, Bingo America made it to a second season.

Let's hope GSN does what Fox DIDN'T do(give out money in full to players whose episodes have aired).  Returning champions is certainly a dying art in game shows.  A $50K payoit is fine by me as long as it doesn't deter the players from playing the game the RIGHT way.

I might be one of the few who enjoyed the show. I know I mentioned a couple of flaws in a thread when the show premiered (I think I even started the thread lol), but the show had a lot of potential.

Only thing is, they might wanna go for lists with a set number of items (i.e., instead of Best Picture winners, do Best Picture Winners of the 1980s). Otherwise, you could go on and on forever.

Oh, and don't have your champions change outfits during the same episode! Other than that, I'm happy the show is getting another chance.
