Another TPiR game retired: Barker's Bargain Bar
« on: November 24, 2008, 09:06:03 PM »
From ClockGameJohn at golden-road.net:

Quote
I understand that "Barker's Bargain Bar" has been disassembled and is no longer backstage in storage.

Reportedly, there is at least one other game on the retirement list, and several others potentially on deck.

We'll let you know what's next!

Incidentally, a few weeks ago, Buy or Sell was also retired.

My guess: because it offers "non-exciting" prizes.

3 Strikes is the next victim. Make Your Mark will be after that.

Is this the budget problems rearing its ugly head or something else? Do they have to pay a lot for storage?

I thought something was odd about Barker's Bargain Bar not being played as often as usual, but part of me just figured it was on a mini. It couldn't be mechanical issues. I've seen them play the game with all the lights out and the trilons not working.

Has there ever been another period (late 70s, early 80s?) where several games were retired in a short period like there have been recently?

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

Not only is Barker's Bargain Bar gone, but if what Drew said about Temptation being "unwinable" is true, then that could very well go bye-bye just like 3 Strikes.  It's ashame I can't even stomach TPIR these days with all this going on.  Looks like the tough economy is finally catching up to the show.  I wouldn't be surprised if CBS yanks TPIR no sooner than 2010.

Doesn't mean they're going to play it like that with the new regime.

I think TPIR is a good candidate for a government bailout.  Think of all the jobs at stake!  Not just the staff and crew, but all the bagel shops and seedy motels around Beverly & Fairfax!  What is going to happen to these people??!

With the quick retirement of BBB and Buy & Sell (and rumors that other games such as 3 Strikes are next), one has to think if the games are being "murdered", instead of retired.

As for the games on deck, my thoughts are:

Bonus Game
Credit Card
Danger Price
Make Your Mark
Now....or Then
Pathfinder
Pocket Change
Shell Game
Step Up
Swap Meet
Take Two
Ten Chances
3 Strikes

Except for 3 Strikes, every other game there has been played only once or twice in the 11 weeks. The focus seems to be on car games and quick games, so games that aren't either might on the block. As for the car games I listed, basically I was looking at what I thought were the longest timed ones.

Awesome! I've been thinking they need to have a TV version of "The Price is Right Live".

The phrase "tinkering to death" comes to mind.

I have a different comment regarding some of the linked . . . material, but God knows I'm not going to be the one that turns this into Yet Another TPIR Thread That Never Ends.
