Stereotypical, yes. Offensive, probably. But still funny.

The BCI press release says a four disc set, and the celeb names include Bob Newhart which would mean at least one episode that was never on GSN.

They're only doing the 1974 - 1978 version -- apparently no episodes from the 1982 version.

That's too bad, cause IMO, the 1982 version was better.

I'd even go so far as to say that the 1982 theme was better and less annoying than the 1974 theme.

I can't say I was ever an avid TattleTales watcher, but how was the 1982 version much different than the 70's version (once they went to the all Quickies format), aside from the theme?

From my recall, the differences were few. Johnny Olson announced and the rattle was done at the end of the show instead of at halftime.

Other'n that, same game, same money amounts (3 $150's and a $300, an extra question thrown in if they have extra time), all of it.

(Oh, and the open was a little different, with the "Places, please!" thing on the newer version.)

And the desk top on the '80s version was grey/tan, instead of three colors corresponding to the panelists' rooting sections.  I assumed they had to get it back on the air so quickly after Up to the Minute collapsed they didn't have time for details.

Seriously, either they didn't bother looking at the '82-'84 run or the one or two celebs who might have later been stars didn't clear their episodes.  Here's the 1982 episode guide and you can link to a partial for 1983 on there -- slim pickings.

One major difference I can recall is that they didn't always use couples...on some weeks, you'd see:

- Actors who merely played couples on TV
- Best friends
- Parent/child teams (in fact, one week in 1983 had Bert's wife and daughter playing!)

And I def had a soft spot for that version's theme, mainly b/c it was one of my first GS memories and stuck w/me for years thereafter. :-)

Some bad news to report.   BCI, which has been putting out these game show DVD releases is no more.    The parent company of it decided to fold it up today, and the indications are that all pending releases on DVD which would include all game show releases are as of now, cancelled.

That means in a nutshell, no Tattletales release and nothing else in the forseeable future.

I just saw the information on tvshowsondvd.com, before heading over here.  This is definitely some sad/bad news for us game show fans.  Thanks to the fine folks at BCI that have given us some good game show sets, some that we may have never seen without their help.  Hopefully those who work for BCI will be able to transition into other jobs without any problems.
