ABC may bring back Millionaire to prime time...

TV week article

I was actually thinking that given the success of Slumdog Millionaire and the 10 year anniversary of the prime time edition coming up, this would be a perfect match for ABC.  The article does question Regis' availabilty since he's still tied with MDP, but since its future is in doubt at this point, it could open a door for him to host once again.

Probably way too early to speculate, but I am guessing a number of things established on the syndie version will makes its way to this brief (?) revival, should it happen.  I would rather not see the time limits, though (or if you have to have the time limits, increase them to 30/60/90 or something along those lines).

Speaking of the syndie version, I'm wondering if Davies and company were getting more eyes on their product from the movie's success.

By success, I am guessing that you mean critical success. Prior to last night's massive Globes win for Slumdog, a lot of folks probably hadn't heard of the movie. Looks like it was #11 in the box office this past weekend. Not saying that the Globes won't heighten awareness, but the movie certainly isn't a financial success in the U.S., yet.

That said, now seems like a great time to bring back Millionaire, or Super Millionaire Plus, etc. I would love to see the phone game resurrected.

That's a pretty short-sighted analysis, though.  It's a $15 million film that's just getting started at the box office.  Meanwhile, it's having all sorts of critical accolades thrown on it.  Its remarkable success at the Globes last night makes it an Oscar frontrunner, if it wasn't already.  This thing is easily going to be a moneymaker.  Saying Slumdog isn't a financial success yet is a little like saying Obama isn't president yet.  It's technically true at this moment, but irrelevant given its inevitability.

Whether that translates to more eyeballs on Meredith, though, is hard to predict.

The movie captured the wonderful parts of Millionaire that Meredith's version doesn't have. The idea that anybody sitting at home can pick up the phone and get on the show, they willingly gave up. And the fact that a huge chunk of the nation (whichever nation) is watching--ABC messed that up. Seeing the movie didn't make me think of the daytime show at all. It just fondly reminded me of when the prime version was big.

The 10th anniversary would be a terrific excuse to try it with Reege for a couple of weeks. As noted, hopefully they don't complicate the game with the time limits and the daffier new lifelines. Just a swankier set, maybe with a larger audience bowl, and freshened music would be enough. Along with the phone game and the fastest finger.

I was thinking and hoping that the network would bring back Super Millionaire in recognition of the 10-year anniversary. But any version of Millionaire that's done better than the current Meredith version, in my opinion, is a good thing and exciting news.

IIRC, Super Millionaire left off with a contestant in the middle of a game. Get him and Regis back, and they could pick up where they left off. I believe Super Millionaire got decent ratings when it aired on ABC.

If there's a 10th-anniversary series, I hope there will be a "Where Are They Now?" series about where past winners are doing these days.

Wasn't that only the first Super Millionaire?

And IIRC, ABC originally planned to bring it back in fall of 04, but a little show known as Desperate Housewives kinda got in the way of that happening...

IIRC, that contestant did end their Game. You might be thinking about the first run of SM when a contestant did not finish his game.

You have to keep the questions short though. It only gives you one row.
