It also helps those who, like me, live in an area of the country where the show is unlikely to travel for auditions. Huntsville, AL is apparently too small a market (and apparently too indistinct a city, compared to, say, the even smaller Savannah, GA) for them to bother with. The nearest big markets within 100 miles of Huntsville are Birmingham and Nashville, two cities not known for having a high number of potential Jeopardy! contestants or strong affiliates (in Birmingham it runs against Wheel of Fortune, likely taking away much of the audience who might otherwise watch, and in Nashville it has never been highly-rated and thus struggles with a weak station, currently WUPX-30, the Sinclair-owned My Network TV affiliate).
