Not a huge STYD fan personally, but I caught this article tonight when I was searching something else and figured there would be plenty here interested.

Interesting how they're thinking of bringing it back. When J.D. Roberto hosted, it had lost that "mall flavor" and replaced it with a cheap Mega-lo-mart. But as long as they at least focus on the version that we all enjoy (or at least tolerated), then I don't see why they can't bring it back.

Not only is Shop Till You Drop being shopped around, we might even see a return in some form or another of Legends of the Hidden Temple.  Wouldn't mind an updated "Born Lucky", but "Loveline"? Meh.

Interestingly enough, the author mentioned that the show hasn't been on the air since 2002, but the Roberto version actually started in late-2003.

I thought the MTV version of "Loveline" was okay...used to love the radio version (pre-Stryker), until our local station pulled it, I'm guessing because of complaints about Stryker. As much as Adam Carolla's non-sequitor rants annoyed me, he at least had a great chemistry on the show. At least there's the "Loveline Archive", where I can download podcasts if I so desire.

ObGameShow: Dr. Drew and Adam appeared on Bergeron Squares during the first few seasons.

/David Alan Grier...that's who should've replaced Adam!
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

Pair it up with Supermarket Sweep and put them in Guiding Light's slot.
When you're at the grocery game and you hear the beep, think of all the fun you could have at "Crazy Rachel's Checkout Counter!"

That's actually not a terrible idea, considering either show could work as a decent companion to Price is Right.

If they do bring back STYD...

The original version was very corny, but it was better then the Roberto version. I felt the Roberto version was too sterile and dull.

The mall can be two stories, but no spiral staircases!

I hope they come up with games that aren't just ripoffs of TPIR pricing games.

Would Pat Finn do the show again? I personally didn't think Roberto was a good fit for STYD, but then again, it was a different format.

Let's not bring back Dee Baker and those creepy "characters". I think his hijinks were overwhelming, especially in the show's final season. Dee's a great vocal artist, but I don't want to see Grandma Crumudgeon again! Sure, Jay Stewart dressed in costume all the time on LMAD, but the difference between Jay and Dee was that when Jay was in costume, at least the dignity of the show was still intact.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

I was going to respond "Pitfall elevator" but I like your idea better.  :)

Only if they get the U-shaped Escalators like they have at Caesar's Palace in Vegas!

Actually, they could do a 60-minute show pairing STYD with Pitfall!!

I didn't mean NO stairs PERIOD, I just never thought it was a good idea to have spiral staircases. I've never seen any contestant fall flat on their faces, but a couple times I've seen contestants stumble and nearly lose their balance.
