New (somewhat) GS-related book out
« on: October 24, 2003, 07:49:29 PM »
While browsing in a local Barnes and Noble today, I came across the new 8th Edition of Brooks and Marsh's "Complete Directory to Primetime, Network, and Cable TV shows", which now includes entries for:

- All GSN originals from '02 onward, as well as one on GSN itself
- All the shows that emerged during the "big money quiz" era
- All reality/dating/pseudo-games
- All short-lived cable games that emerged in the last 3 yrs

It's $24.95, but def a good read for GS fans, or just general TV fans...check it out!

Thanks for the heads up.  Sounds like it's the 8th edition now.

Yep, hence the edit to my original post. :-)

There are, however, some blatant errors:
- Still no mention of Alex Trebek's hosting stint on TTTT '90
- Shop til You Drop's entry makes no mention of the FAM run, and both it and Supermarket Sweep are listed as running new eps from their 1999 arrival on PAX, which the authors apparently didn't realize actually started out w/several mos of reruns from their respective Lifetime versions)
- One unique feature of Greed was the "eliminator"??
- Champs on Sex Wars won $2,500?
- Paranoia ran for *2,000* eps?

And although not a GS, there's no entry whatsoever for Fox's short-lived '02 sitcom That '80s Show.

What is STYD's Fan run?...and what is "That 80s show"?

Making a guess here - I believe Chuck mistyped "Fam run" which of course means its Family Channel run as "The New" STYD.

"That 80s Show" was essientially an attempt by FOX to do what "That 70s Show" did with another decade. It wasn't on for more than a few months, tops. Another poster probably knows more about its run and stuff.

Yep...guess I've been listening to too much Mike and the Mad Dog (NY sports fans will get this, LOL). Anyway, it's been edited.

Yeah, I think it ran from Mar-May 02...which unfortunately for co-star Chyler Leigh, ended up being more than twice as long as the run of her subsequent series, girls' club, which was one of the first casualties of the 02-03 season.

And the host of "Hollywood Showdown" was listed as "Tom" Newton.  (And the GSN run wasn't mentioned at all.)

They'll correct all of those for the 9th edition--and it was widely rumored that there would not be an 8th edition, as Ballantine had closed down their reference book department.  TV fans everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief.
