Syndie Deal and 5th Grader to air on MyNetworkTV

From Broadcasting & Cable:

Quote
MyNetworkTV, which is revamping itself as a programming service, has settled on its 2009/2010 schedule, according to MyNet affiliates.

The service will air the half-hour syndicated versions of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader and Deal Or No Deal in primetime Tuesday nights.

The schedule, which will kick off September 28, is below:

Monday

8:00- 9:00 p.m. --- "Law & Order: Criminal Intent"
9:00- 10:00 p.m. --- "Law & Order: Criminal Intent"

Tuesday
8:00- 8:30 p.m. --- "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?"
8:30- 9:00 p.m. --- "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?"
9:00- 9:30 p.m. --- "Deal or No Deal"
9:30- 10:00 p.m. --- "Deal or No Deal"

Wednesday
8:00-9:00 p.m. --- "The Unit"
9:00-10:00 p.m. --- "The Unit"

Thursday
8:00-10:00 p.m. --- "My Thursday Night Movie"

Friday
8:00-10:00 p.m. --- "WWE Friday Night SmackDown"

That's right; two syndicated game shows airing nationally every week. I guess this will be a neat alternative if your local affiliate doesn't carry Deal right now, or won't carry 5th Grader next fall.

I'm willing to watch 5th Grader at 8 & 8:30 PM on Tuesday nights since my Fox affiliate might air it at 4 AM just like they did with TP:AP this season.  I'll stick with the usual stations for syndie DoND.

This is perfect for someone like me who seems to get stuck at the office from 7:00am to 6:00pm. Now I can finally catch them at night! :)

So wait...this is in addition to whatever slots they have for those shows now, right?

I would guess that WPIX and WNBC would have something to say about that in my area (the former to air syndie 5th Grader and the latter going up against Judge Judy and Oprah with the Deal double).
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

I think NBC (owner of WNBC) already made their feelings known about DOND in primetime.  They dumped it.

That wasn't exactly the point I was trying to make...but I do like the thinking.

(Besides, when has MyNetwork ever backed down from a bad idea? Giving Flavor Flav a sitcom and telenovelas, anyone?)

Giving Flav a sitcom wasn't the worst idea in the world, if you operate under the assumption if the hype man he presents in Public Enemy is just an act.

And since assuming anything else is just too soul-suckingly depressing, I can see them going in that direction.

Don't remind me. Please don't remind me.

It seems that, of all the stuff MyNetwork has thrown against the wall, this one has the best chance of sticking. That, and the reruns of The Unit.

ObGameShow: MyNet also aired a preview episode of Temptation. Fooled me into thinking it was a decent show.

I don't think that was ALL of the reason why they flopped.

The concept they put forward (13 weeks of 5 episodes per week) probably wouldn't have worked for a scripted series on any network (which I think is probably the reason WHY MyNetwork went with it in the first place- if it worked, hey, we're innovative; if it doesn't work, we try something else and hope to God it works.)

Sadly, "Celebrity Expose" and "International Fight League" never seemed to find their audiences.  So myTV is like ion Lite now, right?

In the latter I think there was a lot more at work than just having trouble finding an audience on TV. Finding asses for the seats in the arenas they booked, now...

To add, you'd probably need the production values of Guiding Light to stay under budget if it worked.  However, I'm with both of you on points, as I agree that it was a good try but also that it was spaghetti programming strategy.

Couldn't whichever station is syndicating DOND or 5th Grader in a particular area impose a syndex blackout on MNTV during their airings if they wanted to?

I don't think so because it's not on a distant signal.  What NBC and Fox (MNTV's parent) have done is sold the primetime rights to the shows MNTV. I guess PIX could drop the daytime run out of spite, but Fox would clear it on 5 or 9 if needed.
