On the bright side, you no longer have to travel to LA to see Stan Blits pick out lousy contestants.

I think Stan does a fine job, for the most part.

This sounds nice to me. Not everyone is able to get to Los Angeles, so this gives them a good opportunity to get on the show. The one thing I'm wondering about is the cities they chose. Are these some of the cities that Price didn't do well in when someone posted one day's worth of ratings? I'm not surprised about Chicago, but I would have thought that New York City would be there.

It'd be nice if they'd come to Birmingham...

So they're going to preselect three contestants and incur the costs of flying Stan(?) out there and putting him up and flying him back, plus flying three contestant prospects to L.A., putting them up and flying them back, just for that special breed of contestant you can only find in Philadelphia.

Here's how I think the meeting went:

"How about if we take the show to Philadelphia?"

"Too expensive."

"Then let's bring contestants from Philadelphia here!"

Are they going to pick all three of the Philly contestants to come on down, or pick just one or two and the others get lunch at the CBS commissary which they have to pay for themselves?

An idea so good, it took them 37 years to think of it. It's a good thing they brought in that fresh-blood co-E.P.

Maybe they'll throw snowballs at Stan.  One can only hope?

Well...from watching the show recently, it seems like a larger percentage of contestants are from Los Angeles or the surrounding area. Now I'm thinking that they're trying to keep interest in the show up in other parts of the country. Economics may play a part, too. If you're worried about making rent/mortgage or a car payment, you aren't going to shell out a couple hundred bucks just to wait in line for a TV show. You may drive half an hour to an hour to go to a contestant call, though. I imagine that this will be a fairly big deal in the five chosen cities. Lots of press coverage. Local news, at least from the CBS affiliates. Maybe some articles in the newspapers. Could be a good thing.

So do we know if they'll be flying to each city? With five cities announced, and more to come, I'd imagine it'd just be a TPIR version of the Wheelmobile/Brain Bus.

Does a jar of olives cost the same in Philly and LA?  Some contestants may be at a disadvantage.

/Jes kiddin'. I know it's not pricing ability that gets you on the show
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I think this is almost certainly the case. I would not be surprised to learn that the tourist/local ratio in the Los Angeles area right now is significantly down from recent years.

I wouldn't be surprised if that really happened in the meeting- I remember them saying something back when Drew was chosen that the new set was easier to transport, and the idea was floated that the show could do some traveling. This is the more  frugal route, but I'll be there for the Chicago auditions nonetheless. Hell, $10 in gas money beats paying for the $50 Vegas show (Not that the Vegas show wasn't a blast, it just cost more than I expected. Please don't hurt me, Randy! :) )
Fun Fact To Make You Feel Old: Syndicated Jeopeardy has allowed champs to play until they lose longer than they've retired them after five days.

They mentioned that future cities were TBA, so it wouldn't surprise me if the Big Apple wound up being one of them...I sure hope so, seeing how I missed the Philly auditions.

Chuck, aren't you disqualified from Price?
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

Just an update:

I just saw on my Detroit CBS affiliate that the contestant search is coming 'round my parts. I look to the website, and sure enough, they've added more cities. Now Pittsburgh, Dallas and San Francisco will be paid a visit. They will also go to Johnson City, New York.

Lemme guess: that's where they hold the annual Sausage Festival?

The contestant search in Minneapolis is tomorrow -- I'm still on the fence about going as I'm sure it's going to be a zoo.

From what I've heard, the local CBS affiliate is going to be there taping 30-second "audition" tapes for each person.  You get 30 seconds to explain why you think you should be on Price, or answer some silly question that they throw out at you.  I presume that the tapes will then be sent to L.A. for them to determine which three people will get flown out to the show.

That's exactly what they do.  I went to the Philly auditions and it was just a 30 second sell yourself audition.  I recently got an e-mail from them saying there was a technical problem with the tape I auditioned on and want me to come into the local CBS studios to audition again.  However, I wonder if that's true or if I made it and they want to see my reaction.  I'll let you all know.
