Completely engrossing; I love first-hand accounts like this. What planets must have aligned to have the star contestant provide such a fantastic re-telling of events from that one particular episode that us collectors have had for ten years or more. Very neat, thanks for posting!

To answer the question of does he have his episode, yes, he says that he had it originally recorded at the time on some kind of Umatic player and then had it transferred with some difficulty to VHS some time later, but that his VHS copy was lost some time ago (though he still has the U-matic).    I gave him a DVD of my copy of it, but it's worth noting that he says he is sure he never loaned out his tape to anyone to make copies of, so he does not believe that his source copy is the source for all those copies we collectors have had in possession for many years (my own copy was obtained back in 1994).       If that's the case, it's an incredible coincidence that his episode was also recorded by someone else for some reason that day!

Well, you know, I have a 3/4" U-Matic SP machine. Maybe he'd like a new transfer straight to a DVD? :-D

/I wonder if the recording is in good quality...
//And did I mention I won't charge for that?

Great account!  While I was reading it I could feel the hot lights and the excitement, I just needed the buzzers and bells!
I've been in touch with Preston again, and he appreciates the kind feedback.   And I was also able to successfully jog his memory on Edythe Chan as the name of the "Contestant Lady". :)
That's who it was. She was also the contestant coordinator on the NBC version of Jackpot and several other Bob Stewart shows. I wonder what she's doing now, if she's still with us.

Also of note is that Richard Deacon and Kaye Balland played husband and wife on The Mothers-in-Law. Interesting for several reasons.

She passed away in the mid '90s.

Re: Edythe Chan:  I tried out for Pyramid in the 70s. I was one of three people to make it to the second level to see her. I found out I didn't get on because during the testing, I looked at her. Oh well, c'est la vie.

I believe she was the NYC contestant coordinator for Ray Combs' Family Feud.

Correct.
There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.

Seeing as how I'm also a "Dark Shadows" fan, I would be interested to know who the former DS cast member was.
