GSN is 15!

It was 15 years ago today - December 1, 1994 - that GSN went on the air, to only a handful of cable subscribers and those lucky enough to have access to a big dish.

I think the first few years of the network were the most fun, when most of the action was reruns of old Goodson-Todman shows.

I first got this channel in 1997, and stood by with them until this year, when the channel soon started taking away many of the G-T shows that I enjoyed watching. The fact that they're actually serious about an upcoming Reality show, when an idea like this had already failed for the network, didn't help either.

Once this current lease for $25K Pyramid is over, I'm through watching this channel. If anything worthwhile turns up again, I might tune in again. But until then, GSN is nothing but completely worthless in my eyes.

So, I take it, if they were to pick up a season of The $25,000 Pyramid that GSN hasn't aired yet, you wouldn't watch?  What if they decide to pick up reruns to TPiR?

No, let me clarify this: When I said "current lease", I meant the September 1985-June 1986 package. Of course I would watch again if GSN were to pick a different portion of $25K Pyramid's run. I'd even watch GSN for the September 1985-September 1986 package of $100K Pyramid, which hasn't been seen in a decade, save for episodes from the 12/31/08 marathon on GSN.

As for TPIR, I wish Barker would reinstate the episodes that he banned, but that will happen when pigs fly. As far as his era is concerned, I'm only interested in seasons 1-23 (1972-1995).

As a big game show fan (more subdued in recent years), I don't expect the network to listen to me, because, well, it's been proven that what I want to see just doesn't get ratings. Same reason why TVLand shows more mainstream hits from the 90s and 2000s, instead of the one-season wonders from the 70s and 80s that hadn't seen the light of day.

However, in the late-90s, the network was fun to watch, even as it became more and more a part of pop culture. It had a certain..."charm" to it that it's lost in its effort to become just another cable channel (somewhat understandable, not that I like it). And it's become just another cable channel that I skip over.

If I wanna watch the classic shows, I have Youtube to see stuff that I never thought I would (*shrug*).

I recorded most of what I liked and my local stations show Millionaire, DoND and Feud, so I don't absolutely have to watch GSN, but Happy Birthday anyway!

I thought the best era was 1994-99 - the first five years.  Although seeing old Goodson-Todman shows was great, I was also very interested in the old Barry-Enright, Barris and Bob Stewart shows, which they didn't show enough of.  I always thought they should have devoted more of their schedule to those libraries in the beginning when they had the chance.

Still, I'm glad they've been around all this time!
