Has CBS announced yet?

Has CBS officially announced what -- and we are assuming two games, right? -- is replacing "Guiding Light" in daytime? I thought the Perfessor said it was going to be announced a few weeks ago ... or is it waiting for CBS' presentation next week to the TV Critics Association?

I believe an announcement is coming next week...the Perfessor said the first week of August.

This week has been the cable nets' turn at the TCA. CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX do their thing starting Monday. Let's see what CBS says about their move, and how it's received.

So that's where the August date comes into play.  I wrongly assumed that the Perfessor threw that out as a random date.

And CBS is expected to announce it has greenlighted Fremantle's LMAD with Wayne Brady and his sidekick from their Vegas show, but the airdate and time are not yet firm.

Well then......Looks like the answer is at hand. Pyramid and LMAD appear to be the replacements for GL, but in what order?

I hope so, Aaron. Will this tandem be given the two years to prove themselves as many sudsers tend to get?
Or will they get the Scrabble/Scattergories treatment of 16 1/2 years ago where if they don't catch fire quickly, they're goneski?
Likewise, do we know if this hour is a placeholder for something CBS really wants to put there?
Days Of Our Lives, for example, if as it is rumored, the Corday Productions presentation is breathing its last on NBC?

I hope it doesn't get the Scrabble/Scattergories treatment, or even worse, that the show will be all one big show a la MG/HS. I hope not!

The optimist in me hopes that the two game shows take off and usher in a new era of daytime game shows on the networks. If my math is right, and CBS actually replaces GL with the two game shows (and doesn't change the "official" feed from 3pm to 10am), would be the first time game shows aired in the 3-4 slot since 1975. Had a free moment to think about this - IIRC, the last game show to air in the 3:30 time slot was MG'77 (11/4/77), with the last game show to air in the 3pm time slot being PiR (sometime in '75).

Don, are you trying to say DooL is rumored to jump to CBS? That could be interesting, if so..

It's been rumored for several years that CBS and ABC have been interested in Days of Our Lives.  IIRC, CBS was set to bid on the show back in 2003 if NBC declined to renew it (The Peacock opted to give it a 5-year renewal).

Right now, DOOL is on an 18-month contract with NBC, with a possible one-year extension, which would take the show until 2011 if the Peacock agrees to the extension.    I remember reading the show is quite popular in Europe, and global sales are one main reason NBC keeps renewing it.

I mentioned a few months back that if we were thaving his conversation five years ago, I could see CBS adding and/or extending a soap to replace GL.  IMO, the economic market isn't there to justify doing that today, although if CBS found a way to add a 30-minute DOOL without having to break the bank, a pickup is a possibility, albeit a longshot.

You're very optimistic. NBC keeps expanding Today, and just count the number of half hours that have been given back to the affiliates over the past 20+ years. The game show packagers of yore have all closed down shop except for Merrill Heatter.

For the record, I'm keeping an open mind WRT Wayne Brady on LMAD. He just might work out OK.

Yes on the 3:30pm, No on the 3pm for in August 1975, The Price Is Right moved to 10:30am, Match Game '75 moved to 3pm and Tattletales moved to 3:30pm. This lasted until CBS started creeping sitcom reruns back into daytime on the first of December with the stripping of All In The Family at the three o'clock hour, shifting MG75 and TT back to their familiar time periods of 3:30 and 4:00 (all times Eastern over most CBS stations).

I recently saw the Kathie Lee hour of "Today," and it's like it's a totally different show.  Maybe NBC could have one hour of "Today" with a game show format. :)

Is it certain that the CBS GL replacement will be two half-hour shows?  I wouldn't mind seeing all three piloted shows get a primetime tryout to see which one sticks.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I'm waiting for NBC to change the name of Leno's show to "Dateline Jay Leno".

BTW, is Conan's show still sucking wind?
