A diptych is two panels. A tryptych is three.

As pds319 was quick to realize (as I pretty much thought he would be), diptych means two panels.  Triptych means three.

Hmmmm, my late dad has a lot of art stuff here in the studio... plus a lot of blank canvases... maybe I should get into paintin this kinda stuff... could bode well.
