Jeopardy! Million Dollar Invitational
« on: September 12, 2009, 01:19:44 PM »
The third Thursday of every month, former Celebrity Jeopardy! players will compete as part of a year long tournament, with the winners playing in a million dollar final in May. Here are the links:

Minisite: http://jeopardy.com/minisites/celebrityjeopardy/
Press Release: http://www.jeopardy.com/news/season-premiere.php

Now, the release says it's going to be former players, but one name sticks out: Pat Sajak. Can't wait to see that.
Fact To Make You Feel Old: Just about every contestant who appears in a Price is Right Teen Week episode from here on out has only known a world where Drew Carey has been the host.

You know, just this past week, I have been thinking of what it would be like if J! held some sort of celebrity tournament, and low and behold...

Looks really cool and, to a degree, I think a bit overdue. Interesting way of going about it though, but I think, personally, I will really enjoy it.

/Multiply that times 5000 if Mr. Sajak wins, then let the ensuing bragging and mayhem begin... :D

Hey, you've got lots of time between now and then to work on curbing that urge.

This tourney format sounds like it should've been held last year. And the scheduling is kinda weird, IMHO.

I'll say it should have happened already, but what I mean is an actual tournament of celebrities. For the first couple years, the only incentive was a doubling of the prize money for the player with the top score. That led to at least one show where Final Jeopardy! made no difference to anyone's winnings. Finally, a win means that the celebrity makes another appearance!

Um, what?

(Or are you saying that ONLY the top player of the week actually took any money home for their charity?)

For the first (few) celebrity weeks, the winner would get their score, the losers $10,000; but the top-scoring player of the week would double up in addition.

Well, hold on, then I see his point. If someone's already gone over ten grand on Monday, and there are three players on a later show who are all at $5K or under going into FJ, then he's right, FJ is strictly for bragging rights at that point.

The scenario that Lemon described is exactly what happened. (IIRC, Jeff Foxworthy was one of the players.)

I wonder if Saturday Night Live will do anything with this...

"Burt, since you had the high score at negative one million, you'll return for our next match..."

Meanwhile, I just hope that J! sticks to the press release information and has the bright celebrities.
