I think we're looking at a case of "HEY WE'RE TMZ WE CAN MAKE A FUNNY HEADLINE AND THINK WE'RE JOURNALISTS WHEN WE'RE GLORIFIED BLOGGERS."  Other than aggregating the story, I'm considering the source that aggregated it and then take a pound of Kosher salt with it.

TMZ is really perfecting what Gawker, Defamer and Hecklerspray started.

"a black former show employee". See, I'm too smart to work on TMZ.
[/quote]
No, no no.  "Black" in their version is obviously modifying the word "Show", not "Employee", which makes perfect sense because, as we all know, The Price is Right was originally in black and white!

/Aren't we all too smart for TMZ?

Yes, but. Their nightly half-hour show, as far as entertainment news shows go, is consistently funny and works well with my short attention span. My wife was a big fan of Access Hollywood and ET and other crap shows like that for her celebrity news fix, and the TMZ show is 10x more palatable and less self-important than any of those shows.

Take that as you will...TMZ certainly isn't the smartest show on TV, but I think it will be around for awhile.

It's a guilty pleasure in our house as well.  As I've said before, while the uninformed use "TMZ" as an easy punch line, they do what they do very well.  In the particular case we're talking about, yeah, the headline writer didn't get it exactly right (both for content and the just/judge typo) but in general, their people are every bit as careful about "getting it right" as any other media outlet.

I thought TMZ got their headline right. I think they were trying to say that Barker rules, as in he's awesome. Throw a "he" in there and it makes more sense. "Bob Barker Not Racist, He Just Rules."

And I agree that when it comes to "real" celebrity news, they're pretty darn good. I mean, they did break the MJ death story.

Possible, I guess.  Seems a pretty bad miscalculation, though, since hardly any of us saw it that way.

Tell me you're joking.

That might have been how it slipped past the proofreaders, and I was right up there with the TMZ bashers, but considering that people I respect have been defending them as a semi-valid news source, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that was indeed a typo and not the Onion-esque headline that it sounds like in its native form.

There used to be a pricing game on 'The Price Is Right' called 'Pick-a-Pair' -- and yesterday at a book signing in Hollywood, Bob Barker proved he can still play."), No, Mister Lemon, I am not joking.

'Cept this one isn't nearly as titillating. (As it were.)

So either a) you think the TMZ people are complete sensationalist hacks (which is possible), or b) you think someone at G-R works over at TMZ. :)

The fro. Most certainly the fro rocked the 1981 world. Too bad Mario Machado was dumped at the last minute to bring Ron in.
