Monty Hall to appear on Let's Make A Deal in January
« on: December 05, 2009, 01:32:07 AM »
I recently had the opportunity to interview Monty Hall on the telephone and he shared some of his thoughts on the new version of Let's Make A Deal. He also informed me that he'll appear on Let's Make A Deal in January, which means Monty will appear on Let's Make A Deal in 6 different decades...a feat that will land him in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Is Kitty Carlisle already in there, since she did the same thing on TTTT...?

There's also the case of Bob Eubanks, who's making a similar one-shot appearance on his signature show in January.  GSN, which ought to know a thing or two about Let's Make A Deal, says in its press release that the Eubanks appearance will make him "the first game show host in television history to have hosted the same game show in five different decades."

So then we start getting bogged down in semantics.  Technically speaking, GSN is right, since Monty was not the "host" on the Billy Bush version, nor will he be again on Brady's version, whereas Eubanks will be doing all the hosting chores for the entire episode as he has done in four past decades.

We've also got that pesky "how do you measure a decade" issue about whether Bob's early 2010 appearance marks five consecutive decades, or whether he missed having an appearance in "the aughts" by just a few months on one end, and by only seven days on the other end.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

To avoid this decade problem, we could always measure them like this guy.

Then, you might want to consider Mac McGarry, who has been hosting "It's Academic" in Washington D.C. since 1961.  That's more of a quiz than a game, though.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

According to Monty, his "appearance" will land him in the Guinness Book of World Records for being on the show in 6 different decades. Why is Bob Eubanks only getting credit for 5 decades? I thought he appeared on the Newlywed Game in every decade since the 1960s.

Unless they air it before Dec. 31, Bob will have missed the noughties.

Techically, Bob Eubanks did NG for only FOUR decades. 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. To my knowledge, he has not appeared on the GSN version, in which case it WOULD be 5 decades.

Didn't Eubanks consider 5 decades because some Newlywed episodes taped in 1999 aired in 2000?
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

I'm sure Messrs. Hall and Eubanks sit home and ponder these points for hours on end -- but not as much as y'all have.

As far as I know, those were still reruns from the 1998-99 season.
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!
